Gasp! Another scandal is brewing hotter than a cup of ice water over at the New York Times. Jennifer 8, formerly a Harvard co-ed and currently a Gray Lady reporter, has her very own anecdotal Deep Throat: a quote-spewing, dog-walking, model/actress named "Amanda Tree" who has popped up in two articles of 8's in as many days.

Rupturing The Friedman
Andrew · 12/27/04 09:28AMDid everyone bask in a global feel-good vibe on Christmas Day like blogger/Conde Nast exec Jeff Jarvis? Was there a moment, say right before the youngest family member catapulted a fork across the room, that you thought "nevermind the election, war politics, and existence of Fox News — it's all gonna be ok"? Good, now pluck that fork out of the ceiling and jam it into your ear. NYT's Thomas Friedman wastes no time in getting his Scrooge loose and reminding us how we're all still totally fucked.

The Times has a riveting little story that reads like a corporate thriller. Wait, it's more like an allegory about our image obsessed culture. Actually, it's a love story like Romeo and Juliet. No, it's more like a David vs. Goliath tale. Or one of those yarns about a passionate, eccentric inventor. You know what, it's a children's story about being rejected for your looks only to have your inner-beauty discovered.

'NYT': Pitch Away!
Haber · 12/14/04 09:02AM
Buried at the bottom of Sharon Waxman's Times piece on the "new" trend of cynical Christmas films (Christmas with the Kranks, Surviving Christmas, Bad Santa , and Home Alone get name checked, but, curiously, a bona fide classic of Christmas cynicism, A Christmas Story isn't mentioned once) is this strange little pitch by author David Thomson:
