Martha Stewart Omnimedia Scouts New CEO
Jessica · 11/11/04 11:57AMApparently unhappy with business performance after its namesake became a prison bitch, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia has been in negotiations with former ABC entertainment president Susan Lyne about taking over the company's top spot. Current CEO Sharon Patrick is expected to resign should the board approve Lyne in today's expected vote. Lyne is credited with reviving ABC from its deathbed with shows such as Desperate Housewives and Lost, but we suspect a power executive of her ilk is of little help with a sewing machine. Which means MSLO is doomed.

Television Critics Might Throw Kegger
mark · 11/11/04 11:53AM
You may not remember an ethical flap resulting from the Television Critics Association taking network and studio blood money for ads in the TCA Awards program earlier this year. Really, why would you? But officials within the TCA are still wringing their hands about how to get rid of the tainted funds and restore the credibility of people who watch the tube for a living. Why don't they just send the money back? The nets/studios won't take it back. And what should they do with the funds if the networks persist in their "no givebacks" policy? An e-mail to TCA members ponders a plan of action:
Media Bubble: Newsday A Shell Of Its Former Self
Jessica · 11/11/04 11:27AM· Will things ever calm down around circulation-impaired Newsday? The paper has announced it will cut 100 jobs, because replacing your editor-in-chief just wasn't dramatic enough. [Newsday]

Jessica · 11/11/04 09:36AMWhat's Wrong With Fox News Is Also The Only Thing That's Right

Another Day, Another Evil Editor
Jessica · 11/10/04 11:44AMWilliam Georgiades, former editor of Black Book magazine and Vanity Fair contributor, has written (for free?) a Mediabisro "exposé" on the wild world of freelancing. Georgiades recounts the long and painful process by which he was tortured by an unnamed editor (who is so totally Dana Dickey) at Conde Nast Traveler for over a year, only to see his 1200-word article in the trash. On the bright side, the experience gave him the opportunity to write about the ordeal and reiterate some basic truths about editors: they're cloven-footed devil beasts.

The New Socialists: Pretty And Rich
Jessica · 11/10/04 11:29AMThe Observer explores the movement of young socialite women entering the public relations field and promptly dubs them "socialists." These well-heeled, nouveau publicists include Tinsley Mortimer, Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler, and Vanessa von Bismarck. And, because they're all filthy fucking rich, they don't have to work, which makes their toil all the more inspiring:
Adam Nagourney Denies His Blogdentity
Jessica · 11/10/04 10:41AMWe're still campaigning to get all journalists to start their own personal websites, lest one is resigned to a fate similar to that of Times political reporter Adam Nagourney. Nagourney has a doppelganger (or so he claims) running AdamNagourney.com, which functions as his personal diary. The blog contains lots of confessional gems ("please email Charlie Rose and explain to him that I can still be a relevant guest") and apologies for inaccurate or biased reporting, but Nagourney insists the site isn't his work. Unfortunately, we are inclined to agree, although the thought of Nagourney using a blog to explain why he's no Judith Miller makes us pee a little.

'NYT' Staff Not Asexual At All
Jessica · 11/10/04 09:31AMCindy Adams Refuses To Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
Jessica · 11/10/04 08:51AM
We don't know how you want your tax dollars spent, but us? We'd like to see the legislature pass Jazzy's Law, inspired by Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams' late yorkie of the same name, who died of bloody diarrhea (or E. coli, depending on which details grab your attention) after spending a weekend at a kennel. Now Cindy's on a celebrity-led toy dog crusade to make sure kennels are regulated. But the memory of Jazzy lives on, as Cindy recalls, "I would lie on my stomach in the kitchen and hand-feed him kosher chicken. We would go to Le Cirque and eat off of Limoges porcelain." Heartwarming, indeed.

'Vanity Fair' Glosses Up 'Page Six'
Jessica · 11/09/04 01:56PMThe new issue of Vanity Fair hit the stands yesterday and in it, an oral history of "New York's most feared gossip column," Page Six (hey, Graydon, maybe now that you've sicced Wolcott on the internet, you could put the rest of your shit online so we could, like, share in the best of your monthly revelry). Former Page Six editor and current Daily News columnist Joanna Molloy reflects on the photo shoot of past and present editors:

Journalists Can Play Online Too
Jessica · 11/09/04 12:16PMHey, all you mainstream journalists, have you guys heard about this interweb thingy? Apparently, it's rather popular and great for asserting your own journalistic identity. Columbia professor (that means he's important, so listen up) Sree Sreenivasan is urging all of you to get your portfolios online or even start a blog! At the very least, buy your vanity domain names, lest someone register it and pose as your imposter (Alessandra Stanley, we're talking to you).

'Spin' Staffers' Vanishing Act
Jessica · 11/09/04 11:47AMIs there a mass exodus going down at Spin? Kory Kennedy was named as the new design director back in July and, since then, the mag's door has been noticeably revolving. Kennedy brought in a new art department (not that unusual), Senior Editor Tracey Pepper and another associate editor have reportedly resigned this month, and we hear that more editors might be planning on packing up in the coming months.
