Who the Hell Wants to Go to a Casino in Maryland?

Hamilton Nolan · 11/08/12 04:50PM

The state of Maryland, well known for... always being there, has voted to allow casino gambling. Casino companies spent $80 million to get the bill passed, in order to earn the privilege of building an $800 million "destination resort" in Prince George's County, where people will go and gamble.

Against Demographics

John Cook · 11/08/12 03:45PM

As my colleague Cord Jefferson notes, the 2012 election returns have been widely interpreted as the ratification of an ethno-political realignment that first occurred in 2008: Black, Latino, and Asian voters are firmly in the Democratic column, and they will remain so in ever greater numbers. The white population is shrinking relative to its brown counterparts, and demography is destiny. Brown people are Democrats, white people are Republicans, and brown people are having more babies. Good luck, GOP!

Governor Cuomo: 'Extreme Weather, I Believe, Is Here to Stay'

Ole Miss Students to Racist Peers: 'We Are One'

Robert Kessler · 11/08/12 10:43AM

It wasn't every Ole Miss student who poured into the streets to burn Obama/Biden signs and shout racist epithets Tuesday night. Some were doing normal college things—sleeping, studying, getting stoned. Last night, it was those students' turn to take to the streets. Students gathered to hold a "We Are Mississippi" candlelit walk through the University of Mississippi campus in protest of Tuesday's protest.

Taco Bell Pushes 'Will They Really Eat This Shit?' Campaign Even Further

Hamilton Nolan · 11/08/12 10:19AM

Dog food repurposing factory Taco Bell, which is in the process of becoming "upscale" in the sense of "selling food with a greater number of ingredients than a bean burrito," is rolling out some new Snaxxx that are perfectly suited to the sensitive and ever-evolving American palate. In the sense of "containing a quantity of carbohydrates sufficient to sustain a camel's complete journey through the harsh Sahara Desert."
