Comment of the Day: Don't Go Changing, America
Today we told you about the man who just ate his 25,000th Big Mac. That's 50,000 all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, and cheese on 75,000 sesame seed buns! One commenter asked why not changing is considered such a big accomplishment. Isn't this a bad thing?
Here's what pistachionut had to say:
What bothers me the most about this stupid story is the quote, "A person like me, I just don't change too much." Why do certain people take so much pride in not evolving? There's a frightening amount of power behind someone's simple refusal to change; it's rarely because of an actual, thought-out reason, such as simply, "Big Macs taste better than everything else I've tried in this world and I'll eat them 'till I die!!" which would, at least, explain things. No! This person's taste buds barely work!! His sole reason for doing it again is the fact that he has done it before, the fact that it keeps him from changing!! Eating the same shit sandwich for 100 years is a better option than the gut-wrenching, terrifying experience of not eating it. He has exhibited a fascinating and admirable amount of self-discipline and consistency, qualities that can propel someone to great success, toward... eating a big mac every day of his life. Why? Because a person like him, he just don't change too much...
There you have it, people. Don't go changing to try to please me—just go changing.
