Fashion Week Highlights: Day Four
♦ At Marc Jacobs, there were lots of celebs like Helena Christensen, Elijah Wood, Nicole Richie, Stephanie Seymour, Kelly Osbourne, Sofia Coppola, Winona Ryder, and Jennifer Lopez, and the elaborate, adventurous, world travel-inspired clothes got high marks—but all of the above was entirely eclipsed by the presence of Posh Spice's new gamine haircut. ♦ This Fashion Week, the designers are under strict instructions from CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg to start on time, instead of the usual 45 minutes late, but at Carolina Herrera, there was no choice but to keep the audience (Graydon Carter, Fran Lebowitz, Anna Wintour, André Leon Talley, Venus Williams, Fern Mallis, Ivana Trump, socialites galore) waiting until Herrera's longtime muse Renee Zellweger arrived. But all ended well when ALT declared the show "extraordinary" and "breathtaking." [NYDN, Wireimage, NYO]
♦ Isaac Mizrahi's show at the Hammerstein Ballroom was his first major high-end presentation since 1997, and top retail execs like Macy's Inc. chairman Terry Lundgren were curious enough to attend. Assessments ranged from "gimmicky" to "polished" to "enchanting." [WSJ, WWD, NYP, Style.com]
♦ Poor Proenza Schouler: As an established favorite of Anna Wintour, Jack and Lazaro's label can usually rely on her presence front row. But not yesterday, when Anna jettisoned the show in order to see Roger Federer win the US Open. Still, Nicole Richie, Mary Kate Olsen (with her artist boyfriend Nate Lowman), Kanye West, and famous spurned wife Rosetta Getty hung around to see Proenza's shiny, theatrical looks that got mixed but mostly positive reactions.
