Michael Phelps Could Face Criminal Charges

Ryan Tate · 02/04/09 07:43AM

Rest assured, America: Lawless hippie dope fiend Michael Phelps will not get a pass from the brave sheriff of Richland County, South Carolina. Nor will A-Rod assert independence from Madonna without consequence.

Fashion Models Feel the Squeeze

cityfile · 02/02/09 10:34AM

Perhaps your heart didn't bleed much when magazines like Vogue and Elle got skinnier and skinnier—it's all part of the Darwinian decline of print, right? The news that $2,000 dresses are no longer exactly flying off the racks? You can rest assured that truly talented designers will weather the storm. And if you were one of the many people to be cut from Marc Jacobs's guest list this coming Fashion Week, that's a blow, of course, but there's always next season. But you'd have to be made of stone to be unaffected by the plight of the six-foot, preternaturally beautiful young models from Eastern Europe and South America whose fees have been halved as budgets for ad campaigns and shows are cut to the bone.

Marc Moves From One Balazs Property to Another

cityfile · 01/22/09 07:42AM

It looks like Marc Jacobs is packing his bags and leaving behind the Mercer Hotel suite that he's long called home in NYC. He's not going very far, though. He's reportedly renting a 2,500-square-foot apartment a few blocks away at Andre Balazs' Jean Nouvel-designed 40 Mercer Street for $30,000-a-month. The sixth-floor condo comes with three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and at least one cute neighbor, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. What more could you ask for? Marc's new floorplan after the jump.

Graydon's New School: Not as Glamorous as We'd Hoped

cityfile · 01/12/09 11:11AM

The Post's Andrea Peyser stopped by the Greenwich Village High School this weekend, the new private school backed by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, the mag's deputy editor, Aimee Bell, and actor John Leguizamo. Peyser is predictably outraged by the "selective, pretentious and pricey high school" and its proposed curriculum: "The plan is for kids to rub elbow pads with Carter-friendly Pulitzer Prize-winners. Students will learn about artifacts from a Museum of the City of New York curator, and Mandarin from random residents of Chinatown, all for an eye-popping $34,729 a year." Hold on for a moment. Random residents of Chinatown? That sounds awfully populist! Were Wendi Deng or Vera Wang unavailable? Next we'll hear that they're planning to hire regular gym teachers to teach PE classes instead of having Marc Jacobs lead students in daily workout sessions. A few months ago, The Daily put together a possible curriculum for the school and list of potential faculty members. Click here to see the larger version and consider the glam school that could have been.
