The founder of Rolling Stone, Jann Wenner's publishing empire now also includes Us Weekly and Men's Journal. He was actually born Jan S. Wenner. He switched to "Jann" several years after founding Rolling Stone.

Britney Spears Will End Up Poor And Alone

Choire · 11/02/07 08:00AM
  • Britney Spears needs a good smack with the Suze Orman stick. Carrying a $50,000-a-month mortgage when you're taking home $737,868 a month is sooooo stupid. Why will no one teach the young women of today anything about finance? If Britney lives past 50 she'll be eating cat food. Chances that she'll live that long are slim anyway. [Page Six]

Will no one step forward to edit Wenner Media's Men's Journal? The gig pays $300,000, but, of course, it also includes dealing with Jann Wenner. "The problem with the job," a source tells Keith Kelly, "is that you are taking it for the severance package." [NYP]

Is Karen Danziger The Best Media Headhunter?

Choire · 09/10/07 11:00AM

Today Kent Brownridge, Jann Wenner's former right-hand man and the honcho of new Alpha Media, the former Dennis Publishing, shouts the praises of media headhunter Karen Danziger. She's the exec vice president of Howard-Sloan-Koller Group, and she was the one who suggested somewhat frightening former Rolling Stone guy Jim Kaminsky as the new editor of Maxim. Brownridge tells Portfolio: "Karen Danziger, the only headhunter in the editorial world that I think is worth anything, and she's worth a lot — I love her; she's my sister, shrink, priest, whatever — she gives me a list of people that I should go see, and on it is Jim, and I think, oh, well, Jim." Heh. That's how we felt about Jim too—but then Kent got all frothy on him, and hired him. We've met Karen—she's fun, mouthy, doesn't like idiots, and she dresses like the high-end version of a sharp Long Island lady. But is she all that? Your experiences sought, anonymity guaranteed.

Crazed British Children Want To Destroy Your Airplanes!

Choire · 08/13/07 01:20PM

Literally dozens of menacing long-haired young people have set up eco-camps around London's Heathrow airport, claiming that airplanes are bad for children and other living things and that you can't hug a child with a nuclear airplane and what if British Airways had to hold a bake sale and all the schools got free upgrades to first class? Apparently these youth believe that airplanes are a significant cause of so-called "global warming" and that nobody should fly in them—that we should all just hop around on giant toadstools and live off the magical power of the wind. The protesters, all of whom are out-of-country millionaires due to the insane value of the English pound, expect to be visited over the next week by green-sympathizers like Bono, Jann Wenner and Graydon Carter, each of whom will arrive in his own private jet.

Jann Wenner Makes Problems Go Away

Choire · 08/10/07 02:20PM

Yesterday, there was such a dishy little item for the New York magazine's Intelligencer blog! It was about how former Men's Fitness editor Neal Boulton is telling people all about how he's still dating publisher Jann Wenner. But today that item is nowhere to be found. We hear that Jann called New York editor Adam Moss over it even. Now that's how the gays used to get things done in ye olden times. Love it.

abalk · 07/26/07 10:06AM

"In April, the New York Post had the former Men's Fitness editor "cannoodling" with Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner, who denied cheating on his partner, Matt Nye. The paper also quoted Bolton as saying he was "probably splitsville" with [wife] Clare. Yesterday, Boulton denied that quote and said he and Clare were solid - though he admitted marrying her because 'I wanted to have some kids.'" [R&M]

Did Jann Wenner Make Sure His Son's Wedding Announcement Didn't Go Online?

Doree Shafrir · 07/03/07 01:40PM

As I perused the New York Times Weddings section on Sunday under the watchful eye of my mother ("Do you know that girl? I thought you might know her. Didn't you go to college with that guy? He's young! I didn't know he was a lawyer!" OMG, shut up, Mom! I'm never coming home again!), I noticed one Alexander Wenner's wedding announcement. He got married in the Hamptons! He's 22! He was an intern at Electronic Arts, the video-game designer! But then when we went to post about it yesterday, it was, mysteriously, not online! Was Jann worried that the internets would post about his son? Hmm! Anyway, we've reproduced the announcement, so you wouldn't miss it. Also, his son really looks like a video game designer, but my mom and dad don't have a scanner (Google Image Search was no help), so you'll just have to trust us on this one. (He doesn't really look like Jann, though. So no help!)

Jann Wenner's Alleged Lover In The Hospital

Doree · 04/16/07 02:13PM

Neal Boulton, editor of Men's Fitness and the man Page Six describes as Jann Wenner's sex-squire, has been laid up at St. Vincent's since Thursday night. Last week he went in with what he thought was a stomach ailment but has turned out to be something much more potentially serious; a prognosis is forthcoming, but Boulton is telling friends and associates that he could be in for up to 4 weeks. (That's what that Weider Publications insurance gets you!) Of course, this raises some important questions. First, we wonder when Page Six spoke to Boulton to confirm his new and tiny love, since he's been laid up for at least the past few days. And second, who will bring Boulton flowers? Jann? Boulton's wife? Matt Nye?
