On Monday, at a meeting of the local Republican Party in the third-most-populous county in the United States, a Christian pastor who serves as chaplain for the Harris County GOP tried to stop a Muslim man from serving as a precinct chair because of his religion. “Islam does not have any basis or any foundation,” the pastor, Trebor Gordon, said. “It is the total opposite of our foundation.”

Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, was fatally shot multiple times on Friday evening while filling up his patrol car at a gas station in suburban Houston, Texas. A manhunt for the suspect, who approached the uniformed Goforth from behind before shooting him, continued Saturday.

Houston Police spent five hours this morning cleaning up a highway covered in beer after an 18-wheeler carrying dozens of cases of Busch beer and a car collided on the Katy Freeway. KHOU reports that the 18-wheeler jackknifed and rolled over, spilling the hundreds of beer cans across multiple lanes of the highway.

According to prosecutors, the man behind yesterday's grisly shooting in the Houston suburb of Spring, Texas forced his way into Stephen and Katie Stay's home, tied them and their five children up, and made them lie face-down before shooting them "execution-style." Police arrested Ronald Lee Haskell, 33, last night after a chase and an hours-long standoff. He has been charged with one count of capital murder.
