"His name's Alan Turing and he cracked the Germans' Enigma code. After the war was over, he committed suicide because he was so haunted for being gay. Why don't they teach any of that in schools? A gay man is responsible for winning World War II. If they did maybe he wouldn't have killed himself and you wouldn't be so terrified of who you are."

It took almost 30 years for Larry Kramer's acclaimed play The Normal Heart to be adapted into a movie—Ryan Murphy's take on Kramer's autobiographical account of the early days of AIDS will premiere Sunday on HBO. In a rare interview with the New York Times, the now frail former Gay Men's Health Crisis/ACT UP activist Kramer explained his version of why Barbra Streisand's adaptation never got off the ground: She didn't want to portray gay men fucking.

A 20-year-old Savannah State University student and cheerleader named Desiree was profiled on last night's episode of MTV's True Life, which was titled "I'm a Gay Athlete." In it, Desiree ostensibly came out to her mom Michelle and aunt Deena over lunch. It did not go well. This is about as worst-case scenario as it gets (I suppose only violence and/or outright rejection could make it worse).

Breaking news! Noted homophobe Kirk Cameron has admitted that married people pose a far bigger threat to marriage than gays (most of whom still can't get married) or any "redefining" of marriage.

A GOP representative and nondenominational minister dismayed over challenges to his state's gay-marriage ban penned a pun-filled letter to his local paper criticizing what he perceives as the health hazards of gay male-on-male sex involving "a one-way alley meant only for the garbage truck to go down."

Portlandia's Disappointing Gay sketch is awfully reminiscent of Tyler Coates and Mikala Bierma's Disappointing Gay Best Friend web series from a few years back. Blatant plagiarism or remarkable coincidence? IFC hasn't returned our request for a comment.

Scott Lively is an anti-gay activist who's credited for fanning the flames of homophobic hatred in African countries like Uganda, a place where it is now extremely dangerous to be gay. He has equated homosexuality to pedophilia (as bigots do), and wrote a book called The Pink Swastika, in which he and co-writer Kevin E. Abrams state, "homosexuals [are] the true inventors of Nazism and the guiding force behind many Nazi atrocities." He is running for governor of Massachusetts. He is a clown. When people take him seriously, he is a powerful clown and that is unfortunate (and potentially devastating), but let's not let that distract from the fact that he is indeed a clown.

Vocativ has published a lengthy profile of Marcus Ewert, who bedded not one Beat, but two: Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs. This all started in 1988 — Ewert was 17, Ginsberg (who'd later come out as a member of NAMBLA) was 62, and Burroughs was 74. Ginsberg had his way with Ewert and then passed him onto his friend Burroughs, whom Ginsberg decided could use a good lay.

The Catholic League's Bill Donohue is reveling in the attention he has received for announcing that he wants to march in New York's upcoming Pride Parade and then rejecting organizers' acceptance because of mandatory information and training sessions.
