In case there wasn’t enough awful news tonight, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake just struck off the southwest coast of Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency warned that tsunamis up to three feet high could hit the coast of the Kagoshima prefecture on the island of Kyushu.

According to CNN, the death toll from last week’s devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal now stands at 7,040 with another 14,398 injured. “It will be a miracle if anyone is found alive,” a government spokesperson told the network. “But we have not completely given up yet and are continuing to look.”

The death toll from the devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal now stands at more than 4,400, with more than 8,000 injured. Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said the number of dead could surpass 10,000 when rescue efforts are done.

Death Toll Hits 589 in China Earthquake

At least 589 people have died in the earthquake that hit southern China on Sunday. The death toll rose sharply over the last day as rescuers reached more remote locations. A senior colonel in the People's Liberation Army working with the rescue effort told the Associated Press, "There are a lot of people that we may never be able to dig out. But there is still hope."

A magnitude-5.1 earthquake blew Los Angeles' high last night, striking at 9:09pm local time for about 30 seconds, with at least five aftershocks ranging 2.7-3.6. Authorities across all affected counties have confirmed gas leaks, water main breaks, and a rock slide near the earthquake epicenter around Brea in Orange County, California, just 20 miles south of L.A.

Big, big news: Yesterday residents of southern New Jersey felt the earth beneath them shake for an estimated 15 seconds. The event created chaos in the area, causing one resident's dog to whelp twice and another's basement door to rattle violently. Both the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Weather Service say that there was no earthquake in there area, and allegations of a sonic boom have been squashed by a local military base spokesman.
