Conservatives Finally Find a Reason to Love Beyoncé: Sweatshop Labor
Andy Cush · 05/18/16 11:40AMBeing a conservative who’s interested in pop culture must be discouraging, with megastars like Beyoncé espousing views that are often diametrically opposed to your own. Finally, however, free-market right-wingers have found common ground with the reigning champion of our cultural moment in their shared support for treacherous, low-paying sweatshops.
Last Night God Rained Down on Beyoncé—But Was It For Supporting LGBT People or Playing North Carolina?
Rich Juzwiak · 05/04/16 03:20PMBeyoncé’s Formation Tour stop last night was plagued with rain and lightning, which at one point caused the show to halt and the venue to be temporarily evacuated (Beyoncé eventually made her way back onstage to conclude her set). This is notable because the show took place in none other than the Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina—a state that has become a hotbed of controversy and ill will in the wake of Governor Pat McCrory passing the effectively anti-trans H2 “bathroom bill.” Was the storm a coincidence or pointed act of God?

Rich Juzwiak · 02/17/16 11:50AMWhen my former colleague Jason Parham reviewed Stanley Nelson’s documentary The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution last September, much of its retrospective content (dating back to the ‘60s) was uncannily relevant, given the growing amplification of dissatisfaction over racial inequality in this country, including but not limited to the routine police killings of unarmed black people. Parham wrote:
One Possible Explanation for Shooting Outside of Sheriff's House: Beyoncé
Rich Juzwiak · 02/16/16 04:09PMWhat havoc has been wreaked by Beyoncé’s black pride and the mere suggestion that she’s sick of the blatant disregard for black lives that some police officers exhibit? A real live shooting outside of the Tennessee home of Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold, for one, according to that sheriff. Regarding eight shots Arnold heard last night outside his home, the sheriff told local news station WATE:

Hamilton Nolan · 02/15/16 03:55PMBREAKING: Old White People Find Beyoncé's Black Pride Distasteful
Rich Juzwiak · 02/08/16 02:17PMOn today’s episode of Fox & Friends, a bunch of white people gathered to, among things, lambast Beyoncé’s Super Bowl performance via the kind of partial assessment and narrow interpretation that’s crucial to the conservative critical rubric. One of these white people was former mayor of New York and failed Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.
