Brooklyn Bar Owner Sentenced to Prison After Scamming 100 Couples

Jason Stevens, the owner of Brooklyn bar and wedding venue reBar, was sentenced on Monday to serve as many as 10 years in prison for grand larceny and tax fraud. Earlier this year, Stevens abruptly shuttered reBar and disappeared with more than $1.3 million in wedding deposits belonging to at least 100 couples.

Eric Garner, an asthmatic father of six from Staten Island, died last week after NYPD officers put him in a chokehold and forcibly held him to the ground. The police report written by the NYPD immediately following Garner's death makes no mention of police using a chokehold maneuver, which has been banned by the department for 20 years.

Fifteen-year-old Abigail Hernandez was reunited with her family Sunday evening, nine months after she disappeared from a small New Hampshire town in Mount Washington Valley. Separatists in Ukraine Turn Over MH17 Black Boxes, Bodies

Pro-Russian separatists that had taken over the crash site of Malaysia Airlines flight MH 17 in eastern Ukraine have turned over the plane's recording boxes, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced Monday. The militants have also reportedly sent the bodies recovered from the site on trains to Kharkiv, a city controlled by the Ukrainian government, where six Malaysian representatives were on hand to oversee the transfer of the bodies to Dutch authorities, among others.
