Go ahead and email this one to your dad: the George Harrison Tree was killed by beetles. Los Angeles Councilman Tom LaBonge announced over the weekend that the tree, which lived for 10 years in Griffith Observatory Park, died recently of an infestation.

LaBonge says a new tree will planted to honor the late Beatle, who died in 2001. The Los Angeles Times notes: "Except for the loss of tree life, Harrison likely would have been amused at the irony. He once said his biggest break in life was getting into the Beatles; his second biggest was getting out."

Harrison was an avid gardener in his later years, which is why the tree was planted in the first place.
