Nine are dead and at least one is injured after a gunman entered Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina—one of the oldest black churches in the South—last night and opened fire. Police say the suspect, a slender white male in his early 20s, is still at large and they are investigating the shooting as a hate crime.

Neptune, N.J., police sergeant Phil Seidle shot and killed his ex-wife Tamara Seidle in front of the couple’s seven-year-old daughter in Asbury Park on Tuesday morning, according to police. After a bizarre 30-minute standoff with police, Seidle was arrested on the scene and charged with murder.
