In Portlandia, Recycling is Very Important and Very Specific

Matt Toder · 02/24/12 11:22PM

Some of the best Portlandia sketches are pseudo-commercial types where characters attempt to sell not just a product but a way of live to us. In this sketch, twins Marcus and Madeleine attempt to sell us recycling, their particular brand of recycling, and it comes off great. The constant asides, the subtle music cues, and the hilarious prop at the end make for a great sketch.

Random Person on Twitter Says You Should Go to This Comedy Show In Australia Tomorrow

Adrian Chen · 02/24/12 06:41PM

You may have noticed posting was a little sparse today on Gawker. That was mainly my fault: Today was my designated "Traffic whore" day, and I was supposed to post many cat videos and British tabloid stories about people being impaled in interesting ways, so that my colleagues could take time to concentrate on more in-depth stuff, like accurately predicting the reaction if various actors or actresses the day before the Oscars. Maybe Horse_ebooks cast a curse on me, or I ate a bad grape at breakfast. I just couldn't churn them out today.

Someone Made a Lame Dick Joke on Paul Rudd's Wikipedia Page

Adrian Chen · 02/24/12 06:00PM

The photo agency Pacific Coast News just breathlessly emailed us to say they had exclusive screenshots of Paul Rudd's "hacked" Wikipedia page, above. First of all, vandalizing someone's Wikipedia page is not hacking. Just because it happened on the internet doesn't make it hacking. Second of all: "Enjoys sucking penis?" It's "sucking dick," you miserable non-hacking, uncreative 14-year-old.

$100 Bills Only Cause Trouble

Maureen O'Connor · 02/24/12 03:58PM

High-quality counterfeits of American $100 and $50 are keeping North Korea's economy afloat, The End of Money author David Wolman reports in Time. Estimates on Pyongyang's black market counterfeiting profits range from $15 to $25 million "to several hundred million dollars' worth" every year.

My Little Brother Made This Drawing in a Timeout

Emma Carmichael · 02/24/12 03:39PM

When my little brother Joey was about six years old, he was sent to "timeout" to think about something he'd done wrong. The thing he'd done wrong that day is now lost to family history, but my father recently unearthed the drawing it produced, and I wanted to share it with you, because it is Friday and because it is hilarious—if also very, very demented.

The Whitney Houston Index: What if These People Died the Night Before the Oscars?

Maureen O'Connor · 02/24/12 02:32PM

Sigmund Freud theorized that humans have a death drive, a latent desire for self-destruction. In a media ecosystem rife with celebity death pictures, celebrity death bets, Celebrity Rehab, I'd say we have a culture-wide "death drive," too. The reaction to Whitney Houston's death two weeks ago, reported the day before the Grammys, underscored our obsession with such celebrity tragedies. What would be the Oscars' version of that particular fallout?

Jersey Shore: Lost at Sea

Brian Moylan · 02/24/12 02:18PM

Finally, the members of the greatest sociological experiment of our time forage for their own food, and they promptly caught crabs. No, the actual crustaceans. They did not contract a horrible case of pubic lice, though they did make lots of jokes about it. The guidos never change.

Which Star Is Going to Be Arrested Soon?

Brian Moylan · 02/24/12 11:57AM

Word on the street is this celeb is going to have a warrant put out on him very soon. This actor is trying to get sober and it's not going well. All this singer wants is another baby. No, she's not in Ace of Base.

John Edwards Sex Tape Will Be Destroyed

Adrian Chen · 02/24/12 10:28AM

A Judge has ruled that the legendary sex tape starring John Edwards and his mistress Rielle Hunter must be destroyed because, if unleashed, it could block out the sun and bring a thousand-year night to the Earth. The judge has ordered the tape to be cast into the very fires from which it was forged: a massive flaming Sambuca in some trashy beach bar.

Watch Stephen Colbert Convert All Dead Mormons to Judaism

Matt Toder · 02/24/12 12:09AM

It recently came to Stephen Colbert's attention that the Mormons have a habit of baptizing dead Jews; even though the Church claimed to stop this practice, Anne Frank was apparently baptized for the tenth time last week. So Colbert only had one sensible choice, retaliation-wise: to convert all the dead Mormons to Judaism.

Jon Stewart Can't Believe He Is Still Surprised By the Republican Candidates

Matt Toder · 02/23/12 11:32PM

On tonight's Daily Show, Jon Stewart turned his attention to last night's Republican debate. Besides being miffed that we've had to endure twenty of these events, Stewart also couldn't believe Mitt Romney misquoting Seinfeld, Rick Santorum's reasonable explanations and the one word each candidate used to define himself.

Wisconsin Grifters Characteristically Low-Key

Caity Weaver · 02/23/12 10:36PM

A 52 year old man was arrested in Madison for strolling into a restaurant, announcing he was the new general manager, and whipping himself up a little dinner.
