Happy Easter From Ryan Gosling

Louis Peitzman · 04/08/12 01:04PM

A Twitter account purporting to be Ryan Gosling is responsible for hiding 200 Gosling-themed eggs around New York City. Although it's doubtful that this is actually the actor's doing — he's never been that big on Twitter himself — it still feels like a delightful Easter miracle. Besides, if he's saving people from speeding cars, who's to say he's not helping everyone get in the holiday spirit with a citywide Easter egg hunt?

Titanic Fans Are No Match for Hunger Games Devotees

Louis Peitzman · 04/08/12 12:32PM

A $17.4 million weekend gross for Titanic isn't exactly sad — but it's a little disappointing, given that at one point, Titanic was the highest grossing film of all time. James Cameron's 3D conversion could not compete with The Hunger Games, which once again took the top box-office spot, this time with $33.5 million. The film's current domestic gross is now more than $300 million.

Happy Easter: Watch Out for Salmonella

Louis Peitzman · 04/08/12 11:34AM

Easter is a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, eat chocolate bunnies, and of course, nuzzle baby chicks and ducks. But as adorable as fuzzy little birds are, the CDC warns that these animals are deceptively dangerous.

Mike Wallace, one of the original correspondents of 60 Minutes, has died at 93. Wallace worked for the program for four decades and entered semi-retirement in 2006. Since then, Wallace appeared intermittently on the show to interview such contentious figures as Jack Kevorkian and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. 18-Year-Old High School Student and Former Teacher Call It Quits

Louis Peitzman · 04/07/12 04:42PM

Movies like Never Been Kissed and TV series like Pretty Little Liars have showed us the lighter side of student-teacher romance. The reality is far less pleasant, but for a time 18-year-old Jordan Powers and her former teacher, 41-year-old James Hooker, were trying to make it work. That relationship ended, however, when Hooker was arrested for — big shocker — sexually assaulting another teenage girl 14 years ago.

Tom Cruise’s Former Spiritual Mentor Continues to Piss Off Scientologists

Emma Carmichael · 04/07/12 04:15PM

Today's edition of The Independent offers a profile of Marty Rathbun, a member of the Church of Scientology for 27 years, now considered a "heretic." As a high-ranking official, Rathbun worked with high-profile Scientologists like Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kirstie Alley, and Greta Van Susteren. Since he left the Church, he has been hounded by damaging allegations and a weirdly persistent "documentary crew" known as the "SQUIRREL BUSTERS." Read more »

Fried Catfish Is So Hot Right Now

Louis Peitzman · 04/07/12 03:48PM

Fried catfish is not exactly rare in New Orleans, but during Lent it's inescapable. On Lenten Fridays when good Christians abstain from meat, they settle for fish fries. ("Settle," as though any sane person would choose meat over fried catfish.)

The video was made by campus group Understanding Same-Gender Attraction (USGA), which is not officially recognized by the Mormon university.

Lights Out for 'Painter of Light'

Louis Peitzman · 04/07/12 09:00AM

Thomas Kinkade, the so-called "Painter of Light," died on Friday at the age of 54. Kinkade purported to be "America's most-collected living artist," which makes sense given the unverifiable (but frequently cited) claim that one in twenty American homes have a Thomas Kinkade piece.

'All the Bloviating in the World Won't Matter:' This Week in Hate-Watching Bill O'Reilly

Matt Toder · 04/07/12 08:55AM

Mitt Romney's nomination is all but decided at this point and Bill O'Reilly has moved his show's narrative ahead to the general election. During the week on the O'Reilly Factor, he made the point that only the debates will really matter and that the rest of it is just "bloviating." Does that mean he'll tone down the rhetoric at all? Of course not.
