A Discussion with an HIV Counselor

Rich Juzwiak · 08/30/12 10:25AM

Bryan Kutner is an HIV counselor who shared his knowledge and experience with us for last week's "Please Don't Infect Me, I'm Sorry" story. However, Kutner has taken exception to the overall tone of the piece, so we invited him for a discussion (slash debate?) on HIV risk, prevention, stigma and what all else you want to ask him about.

O Come, All Ye Faithful, to Your Republican Baptism

Hamilton Nolan · 08/30/12 09:38AM

To watch America's most treasured political theater play out firsthand is to come to understand that this is not about real things that happen in the world outside of television boxes and the mouths of anointed leaders. This is a mass indulgence of the faithful in the collective ecstasy of their faith. As an act of cognitive dissonance, the speeches of the Republican convention were breathtaking in their boldness.

A 100-year-old driver plowed into a crowd outside an elementary school, giving other 100-year-old drivers a bad name.

Sick of Charlie Sheen? Too bad. His show Anger Management just got picked up for an additional NINETY episodes.

Republicans Are Buying Atrocious Souvenirs

Hamilton Nolan · 08/29/12 05:40PM

There is an official Romney/ Ryan souvenir store in the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where the convention is being held. It's a store that would normally be selling Tampa Bay Lightning shirts and whatnot, but now it's selling souvenirs to people with poor taste who may not even like hockey.

Obama Interrupted at UVA Campaign Stop by Inaudible Chanting

Kate Bennert · 08/29/12 05:30PM

Earlier today, before he took on redditors from his basement office, President Obama was delivering a speech about how young people are the future (or something) to a bunch of mildly enthused rich kids at UVA. Not everyone was pleased to hear this, though, as he was interrupted by a few hecklers in the back, chanting something inaudible. Not to worry though, the hecklers were soon drowned out by shouts of "4 more years!" from the kids in the front. "Thank you," Obama said to the hecklers and kindly asked them to back their shit up come voting season.
