The Personal Injury Lawyer Who Called a News Anchor Fat Now Says He's Sort of Sorry
Taylor Berman · 10/05/12 08:08PM
One week after saying Wisconsin news anchor Jennifer Livingston was not a "suitable example for this community's young people" because she's overweight and just two days after doubling down on those comments, personal injury lawyer Kenneth Krause showed the empathy you'd expect from a man in his profession and offered a half-assed apology in an interview with ABC News today.

Race Bait and Switch: Adapting Wuthering Heights and Steel Magnolias
Rich Juzwiak · 10/05/12 05:20PM
This weekend sees the release of adaptations of two cherished favorites featuring black actors playing characters previously portrayed as white. Andrea Arnold's gorgeous and raw spin on Wuthering Heights opens in limited release and features a black Heathcliff (via Solomon Glave, who plays him as a teen and James Howson, who handles the grown-up portion of the film, which covers only about the first half of Emily Brontë's novel). Meanwhile, Kenny Leon's adaptation of Steel Magnolias features the likes of Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashād and a show-stealing Alfre Woodard among its entirely black principle cast. It airs Sunday on Lifetime.

New York's Finest Bills Parents for Damage to Cop Car That Killed Their Son
John Cook · 10/05/12 03:06PM
When they're not busy cold rapin' ladies, members of the New York City Police Department often like to run over black people with their cars, as two of them allegedly did to Tamon Robinson earlier this year in Queens, killing him. Robinson ran after the cops tried to stop him for removing paving stones from the street, so they drove up onto the sidewalk and ran him over, with their car. Anyway he died but there was a pretty big dent in the cop car so last month they sent a repair bill to his grieving family. Freedom isn't free, people.

Max Read · 10/05/12 02:02PM
How did Mitt Romney win the debate? Sure, it could be because his opponent was unprepared and listless. Or it could be because he had a cheat sheet with all the answers on it. Careful video analysis of Romney taking something out of his pocket has revealed, Daily Kos bloggers and others claim, a tiny piece of paper covered with answers. ("OBAMA POLICIES = BAD.")
Two Government Economists Who Were Obama Donors Magically Falsified the Unemployment Figures, I Bet
Hamilton Nolan · 10/05/12 02:00PM
When the sunny unemployment figures came out this morning, savvy conservatives knew that something rotten was afoot. A 0.3% decline in unemployment—one month before an election? Tell us another one, NObamatards. And now, these clear-eyed zealots may have found the smoking gun that they need to prove that something that is clearly not a conspiracy is, in fact, a conspiracy.

Rich Juzwiak · 10/05/12 01:40PM
Christina Aguilera just tweeted the cover upcoming, hilariously named seventh studio album Lotus. She's never given an indication that she has any taste at all (right down to the gratuitous, gaudy vocal running), but it seems like she's at least now owning her tastelessness? She's growing before our eyes. Good for her.
