We've known for a while now that Foxconn, the Chinese mega-plant where Apple and other technology companies have their gadgets manufactured, has struggled with suicides and rampant worker dissatisfaction. But today comes confirmation that Foxconn's labor force is involved in yet another ugly scandal: child labor.

John Cook · 10/16/12 01:10PM
When we last checked in with internet tech explainer Leo Laporte a year ago, he was accidentally broadcasting screenshots of his sexy Google chats with his business partner Lisa Kentzell by cutting to the contents of his computer screen—"i still smell and taste you. i adore you. (12:13 pm)"—during his show. So what's he up to these days? The exact same thing.

Jon Stewart Reacts to Fox's Many Attempts to Spin VP Debate In Ryan's Favor
Kate Bennert · 10/16/12 12:30PM
After mocking MSNBC's now infamous freakout over Obama's first debate performance, Jon Stewart turned the spotlight on Fox's latest attempts to spin the debate in Ryan's favor. Across the board, Fox News made some expected accusations: Biden's laughing was "hostile, aggressive, scornful"; some not so expected accusations: "Dementia"; and, of course, some all together laughable accusations courtesy of "Eskimo Annie Oakley" Sarah Palin: Biden "reminded me of a muskox running across the tundra with Ryan and [Raddatz] underfoot."

Rich Juzwiak · 10/16/12 10:25AMDespite their show's hiatus, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo's sometimes titular Alana and her mother June are making more media rounds. They were on KTLA yesterday morning Jimmy Kimmel last night. Toward the end of the former interview, Alana wouldn't stop singing (to be fair, her mother prompted her) and otherwise causing a ruckus that derailed the interview, just like she did a few months ago on Anderson Live. Here's where keeping it real becomes utterly obnoxious. At the same time, it is refreshing to see someone openly reject bullshit morning-show questions, even if that someone in question is a 7 year old.
The Lower Class Is the Most Important Class
Hamilton Nolan · 10/16/12 10:15AM
The Obama administration is changing some rules about how people can repay their student loans based on their income, to make that debt repayment somewhat less onerous for people whose incomes are low. Which is good. But not as good as it could be. As in many operations of our society, the lower class is helped less than the middle and upper classes. This happens often in the system of government we have designed. It is not a good system.
