Justice Scalia Will Teach Tea Party's Constitution Class
Tea Party Caucus founder Rep. Michele Bachmann has been planning a weekly course on the Constitution for new members of Congress, many of whom ran on their rich constitutional knowledge. And her first guest professor? Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
It's always interesting to watch the Supreme Court become an openly partisan body. There's no longer any accountability in Washington for anything, so judges might as well just pick sides at this point. Justice Scalia will try to pass this off as merely an educational exercise, but most judges who had any interest in appearing non-partisan wouldn't accept offers from Chief Tea Party Lady Michele Bachmann to address her right-wing nerd orgy.
Here's how she broke the news to Lou Dobbs on his radio show:
Dobbs: You've got a terrific idea that you're going to implement with the new Congress: a course on the Constitution for incoming Congressmen and women. Tell us about that.
Bachmann: We're going to do what the NFL does and what the baseball teams do: we're going to practice every week, if you will, our craft, which is studying and learning the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
Justice Scalia has graciously agreed to kick off our class. The hour before we cast our first vote in congress, we'll meet in the Capitol, we'll have a seminar on some segment of the Constitution, we'll have a speaker, we'll have questions and answers, we'll wrap our minds around this magnificent document [and] that'll set the tone for the week while we're in Washington.
I think it's great and I'm hoping all the members of Congress will partake; it's bipartisan.
Any member of Congress who attends this doesn't deserve reelection. (Unless it comes with lunch, which would make the whole ordeal understandable.)
