The Naked Cowboy Attempts Shakedown of Naked Cowgirl, Starts Naked Times Square War
Times Square fixture the Naked Cowboy sent a cease-and-desist letter to Sandy Kane, the bawdy stripper who unleashes her shtick on tourists daily as the Naked Cowgirl. He wants her to sign a franchise agreement. Say what?
The Naked Cowboy has a trademark on his fake name and claims that Sandy Kane—who has toured the local comedy circuit for years and once lit her tits on fire on public access television—is infringing on it. He wants her to pay $5,000 a year to "franchise" the Naked name. Seems sad, but one other performer already has a deal with the Cowboy (ne Robert Burck) so that she can have legal rights to call herself the Naked Cowgirl. Sandy says that Burck may have the trademark, but she's been doing her naked act far longer than he's been in his BVDs strumming for the pocket change of fat Floridians. If he can slap her with a cease-and-desist letter, can all of Manhattan get a restraining order against the Naked Cowboy?
