Vanity Fair Is Going Ahead With a Story Gwyneth Paltrow Hates
Does Vanity Fair have a bombshell story about Gwyneth Paltrow?
Last May, the actress reportedly sent an email in telling her friends not to answer any questions from Vanity Fair and suggesting they never "do this magazine again." But the strategy seems to have backfired: the magazine is pushing the story through, with the publicity surrounding Paltrow's message only fueling interest.
What's her problem (besides, you know, everything else)? The New York Times, which reported the e-mail when it leaked, speculates that Paltrow's reaction may have something to do with the fact that Vanity Fair has in recent years begun to treat celebrities as fallible humans. But it's hard to say: One witness to Paltrow's leaked e-mail claims it didn't specify. "Vanity Fair is threatening to put me on the cover of their magazine," the message reportedly read. (What a threat!) "If you are asked for quotes or comments, please decline. Also, I recommend you all never do this magazine again."
Harsh.
In hindsight, Platrow's attempt at damage control was probably not such a good idea. "Well, she sort of forced my hand," Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter told the Times of London on Sunday. The magazine, he confirmed, does have a story on Paltrow in the works—and considering her apparent difficulties with the publication, it's probably not going to be pretty.
