From a long list of the most excruciating old school commercials that painfully integrated rapping comes this winner: The "Perfect Strangers" and "Head of the Class" hip hop promotional collaboration dance and musical extravaganza. I always thought Balki would make a promising rap star, and Larry, of course, is a great hype man. But spectacles like this surely prompted the sitcom stars of today to specifically write "No rapping promo appearances" language into their contracts. So many lost opportunities:

Los Angeles-based social network Buzznet finally confirmed a long-rumored investment from Universal Music Group, which PaidContent earlier reported to be around $25 million, brining the total invested in the company to over $32 million. The social network, which has been focused on music fans from the start, has also become quite acquisitive, picking up popular music blog Stereogum and, most recently, Gawker Media title Idolator. Will Smith's entertainment company is investing in a YouTube killer for music videos that will either be Hulu for music (which would be neat! Hulu is pretty cool!) or another pointless stupid failure like every other major label or studio effort to kill YouTube. Scandal alert: Barack Obama has been complicit with rappers since at least 2006! He has collaborated with their nefarious aims! It's all there in a sordid report from Human Events, which lays bare the undeniable ties between Obama and individuals who have released albums containing rap music at one time or another. He hasn't rebuked them or repudiated them or even renounced them! Not even "foul-mouthed rappers" like Will.I.Am! Not even when, throughout the rap industry, "folks talk so openly and regularly about b———, n——— and hoes"! Yo Evan Gahr of Human Events, can you please drop some knowledge on these muhfuckas?

It's rare that a reality show performs a true public service, but if this new Miss Rap Supreme show on VH1 can actually uncover a single talented female rapper, it would be doing America a favor. Think about the current status of our most famous female MCs: Lil Kim went to jail, Foxy Brown went to jail, Remy Ma is going to jail, and Lauryn Hill, the best of them all, is behaving like a crackhead. Who are young women supposed to look up to, public intellectuals? Ridiculous. I have high hopes about the idea for the show, which is the logical demographic successor to last year's painful version, The White Rapper Show. MC Serch is back (and still employed)! And he's finally teamed up with Yo-Yo! Miss Rap Supreme premiers tonight at 10. I have no idea whether any of the girls on it are good rappers or not, but they do look reliably crazy, which is half the battle. The full trailer, below.

Prodigy, Mobb Deep's lead rapper and avid blogger, is currently locked up in Fishkill, NY. With all the time on his hands, he's been reading, writing, and philosophizing. And doing a lot of thinking about how racist the entertainment industry is. And making long, long lists of examples of racist cartoons, movies, TV shows, and advertising, and sending those lists out to be posted on blogs [VIBE]. He has a point! Elsewhere, gossip types say Beyonce is pregnant already. That would mean they had sex! We demand the national media drop everything and confirm this story, even if it means drawing every last reporter out of Iraq and stationing them throughout the Marcy Projects. Priorities, people.

Here's what the CEO of MySpace said about his new deal with three record companies: "This is really a mega-music experience that is transformative in a lot of ways... It's the full 360-degree revenue stream." Using the words "mega-music" and "full 360-degree" in an interview with the Times is, well, it's as vapid and gaudy as your typical MySpace page. Here's a less barf-inducing description of the probably-doomed music site the CEO was talking about:

A new survey of men who listen to "classic rock" radio stations reveals that most of them are voting Republican. "The survey found women and fans of alternative radio, featuring '80s and '90s rock, tend to be Democratic, while men and classic rockers lean Republican." [Reuters]

The Times reported that rapper Jay-Z is about to close a $150 million deal with concert promoter Live Nation, and said, in its headline, that the deal is a "New Model For Ailing Business." Really? Because the whole thing sounds awfully familiar.

Going on a trip any time soon? Why not ask Kanye West? What? Why of course he has his own travel website! It's called KanyeTravel.com, and it just launched after a year of preparation. Why the fuck does Kanye West have a travel website, why would anybody use such a thing, and how in the world could it take a year to set it up? There are so many questions in this crazy world! Remember that IO Digital Cable/ Optimum Online reggaeton ad on the beach that is the most ubiquitous thing on television in the tristate area? Ha, you don't just remember it, you secretly love it! Or perhaps it makes you want to murder people. Either way, when I saw this old Spanish remix of the ad running on Telemundo last weekend, I knew I had to find it and bring it to you, the viewer. This is not just the same as the ad on the beach, but with Spanish lyrics; this is a totally different ad, done in a Hype Williams-style shiny black and white palette, with dancing girls, an even more banging beat, and that reggaeton guy dressed up like Busta Rhymes, riding in a tiny car! It's truly a must-see. If you don't see much Spanish TV, you'll want to bookmark this one to watch over and over and over and over. Full video after the jump.

Hey, everybody: Reluctantly heterosexual digital sampler Moby will be appearing LIVE at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square tomorrow to sign copies of his new CD! The flier instructs you to "purchase a copy of Last Night to receive a wristband to meet MOBY." Or, just hang around on the street outside with a cup of tea, talking loudly about how your gay children are going to be starring in a car commercial that could really use a good ambient soundtrack, and watch him come to you.

Not sure if anyone cares but me, but our dear friend Craig Stevens, (possibly fake YouTuber, Broadway aspirant, and unwitting homosexual) has posted a singing video! He says of the hot clip: "Hey guys...so this is my first attempt at a pop song. I LOVE THIS SONG it's so pretty. Don't hate, I'm learning how to riff! I'm singing this at an open call for Altar Boy(z) on Tuesday!!!!!" The pop song he so dearly loves? The Commodores' 1978 jam "Three Times a Lady." Dedicated perhaps to girlfriend Janine? Watch in reverent awe after the jump. It will remind you of parking at lovers' lane with your special someone, or of sharing a milkshake down at the malt shop, or of the soft mewling of a cat stuck in a hurdy gurdy.

John Mayer: some of us believe the crappy emo singer and blogger should take his guitar and go play in traffic; others believe he is hot, and therefore not that bad. But one thing we can all agree on is that he should not be a sports announcer. The evidence? This minute-long clip of him, for some reason, announcing a preseason baseball game in Tokyo. You'd think when a big famous band starts blogging, they'd be flooded with comments from slobbering fans. But The Roots, the live instrument-having hip hop supergroup that just about everybody likes, don't appear to have more than a handful of readers. Seriously, they barely have more comments than Ronn [sic] Torossian's blog. Meanwhile, Courtney Love's latest entry on Myspace has 32 comments already.
