Sexy Sailors Sing Styx, Down by the Seashore?

Leah Beckmann · 02/26/11 05:00PM

I've personally made sure that every Josie and The Pussy Cats lip sync video I made when I was 14 was destroyed. Lexy and Stephanie here? Not so lucky. Watch these crooners perform a duet against many a beautiful background.

Violin-Playing Robot Is Just Showing Off

Max Read · 02/22/11 10:30PM

You might be feeling cocky after watching this robot play the violin, because it isn't all that good. But the thing is: It's just showing off. Toyota's "Partner" robots are designed to be personal assistants, and the whole "Oh? Is that a violin? Yeah, I used to take lessons, do you mind if I play a tune?" thing is just their way of bragging about how flexible they are. Jerks. (Are you imagining a sci-fi story about robot personal assistants who get laid off? And they're forced to busk in the subway, playing their violins for pennies? And it's a thoughtful, even moving story about technology and economics and self-worth and obsolescence? Nerd.) [Popular Science]

Celebukid College Joke Rap Genre Reaches Its Nadir With 'Pussy Breath'

Hamilton Nolan · 02/22/11 12:57PM

It's okay for college kids, or white kids, or even rich and famous kids to like rap; or even to rap themselves, if they happen to be blessed with that particular talent. But it's not okay for rich famous white college kids to butcher rap music, for laffs (on purpose, or unintentionally). Not any more, at least. Maybe it was funny the first time someone tried it, oh so many years ago? We doubt it. But maybe. Now, though... we present you with Pussy Breath.

Uzbekistan Scared of 'Satanic' Western Music

Jeff Neumann · 02/22/11 06:30AM

State-run television in Uzbekistan recently aired a documentary called "Melody and Calamity" to warn Uzbeks of the dangers of western rap and rock music, which are "approaching as dark clouds over the heads of Uzbek youth." One of the more interesting facts from the documentary states that "rap was originated by inmates in prisons, that's why rap singers wear wide and long trousers." The film also suggests that metal fans can be swayed by the soothing sound of classical Uzbek music. Makes sense! [AFP]

Lady Gaga Says She Was in That Egg For 72 Hours Straight

Lady Gaga has been traipsing around for the past few days claiming she was in that damn egg thing she arrived to the Grammys in for 72 hours straight before the show. "It was a very creative experience, and it was time for me to prepare and really think about the meaning of ["Born This Way," which she performed on stage] and get prepared for the performance," she told Ryan Seacrest.

Madeleine Davies · 02/18/11 02:55PM

Sure, the life of Anna Nicole Smith is tragic, but did you ever think that it was opera worthy? Well, one composer did and, turns out, it's a hit.
