Secret Eminem Sex Tape... With No Sex

Gawker · 11/18/03 04:13PM

Today at 6 p.m., hip hop magazine The Source is going to premiere what they call "a secret racist tape" made by Eminem. For those not keeping up, Eminem and The Source's co-owner Benzino have been waging a really dull feud for like a year now.

The American Music Awards: 2 Legit

Gawker · 11/17/03 05:49PM

Who knew? The American Music Awards show still exists. The show, in fact, was perpetrated just last night.

The Last Days of Manhattan

Gawker · 11/03/03 10:58AM

In what is surely a horseman of the apocalypse — wait, which one are we up to? The third? If the Hilton sisters were collectively the first horseman... Right. Anyway, a band calling itself Eddie Money Box Set is billing itself as an 80's karaoke party band. These are definitely the end times.

BritneyWatch: The Music Video

Gawker · 10/29/03 08:47AM

Over at Vivid Blurry, Toby is slightly upping his prediction of the sales of Britney Spears' forthcoming album. For William Safire and Osama bin Laden and anyone else who's been holed up in a culturally-deprvied cave, he also gives a detailed analysis of Britney's new video with Madonna:

The Strokes: Is This Shit?

Gawker · 10/28/03 10:36AM

Blogger Jason Kottke writes: "When you listen to the new Strokes album for the first time, you feel a little ripped off because it sounds so much like their first album. After the third full listen, it becomes as familiar as that favorite pair of jeans that somehow got lost in the back of the closet but which jeans you're delighted to find and start wearing again almost daily. Comfortable."

The Spin CMJ Afterparty

Gawker · 10/23/03 11:06PM

Every night of the CMJ music festival, the streets of Manhattan are packed with all the visiting young music-lovers vomiting happily on our curbs. Tonight will be the most vomit-alicious: it's the big Spin magazine CMJ afterparty. I'm not attending this event because I'm sure it's really loud and I'm saving my eardrums for Mars Volta on Friday night, but here's what I imagine is going on right now:

Britney's Tat: Update!

Gawker · 09/11/03 02:52PM

From Aidin Vaziri's interview with Taryn Manning, who appeared with Britney Spears in Crossroads:

Clay Aiken: Shock and Awe Campaign

Gawker · 09/03/03 09:28PM

Todd "I am not Clay Aiken's Agent" Headlee — previously discussed here — is a busy Clay Aiken fanboy. His latest memo, which has spread over the internet faster than Paris Hilton's legs, proclaims a coordinated — and evidently recording company-sanctioned — assault on editors at YM, SEVENTEEN, CosmoGirl, Teen People, and Teen Vogue.

VMA coverage

Gawker · 08/29/03 12:20PM

I missed the VMAs (*yawn*) last night, but it doesn't matter because Neal Pollack covered it for me. In excruciating detail. "Carson Kressley, Kim Cattrall, Simon Cowell, and a funny cartoon baby named Stewie handicap the race amusingly but also annoyingly. 50 Cent shows up live on the Red Carpet wearing the baddest-ass pinstriped silver suit I ve ever seen. He s with Vivica A. Fox, and is definitely winning this game called life. 50 Cent, two years ago, you were recovering from nine bullet wounds, and now you re up for four awards, the host says. Oh. I feel so small and alone."

Electroclash is dead

Gawker · 07/18/03 02:06PM

The Village Voice's Tricia Romano reports that music promoter Larry Tee, who catalyzed, if not started, the Williamsburg electroclash craze with his "Berliniamsburg" parties at Luxx, is hanging up his ironic Members Only jacket and calling it a synthesizer-and-legwarmer free night. It's like the 80s are over all over again. Ah, well. It was funny while it lasted.

Letter from Matt Mcauley

Gawker · 07/11/03 02:11PM

Here's the text of the letter mentioned below that [A.R.E. Weapons band member and boyfriend of Chloe Sevigny] Matt Mcauley sent Village Voice reporter Tricia Romano after she wrote about getting whacked in the head with a microphone stand at one of their concerts: [The letter was handwritten and all in caps. Romano denies that it was written in crayon.]
