Financially Troubled Ziegfeld Theatre May Be in Danger of Closing (UPDATED)
Louis Peitzman · 07/08/12 12:58PMKaty Perry's Documentary Reveals Nothing About Katy Perry
Rich Juzwiak · 07/05/12 03:50PMThe 90-minute, needlessly 3D documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me is a fantastic document of how guarded our superstars come in 2012. There's more revealed about Madonna in a single snort or eye roll in 1991's Truth or Dare than there is Katy Perry in the entirety of Part of Me. We learn that being a famous singer is Perry's childhood dream come true, that her goal is to make people smile, that she's not yet ready for kids. The biggest revelation is that she looks fantastic out of makeup, and if the words in her Proactive commercial are true, even that shouldn't come as a surprise. No warts at all.
Ted's Titular Bear Is a Sex Symbol to Some, an Abomination to Others
Louis Peitzman · 06/30/12 01:32PMIf your reaction to the Ted trailer wasn't instant arousal, there's a good chance you're not a plushie. But if you are, in fact, a stuffed animal fetishist, Seth MacFarlane's first full-length live-action feature is kind of the holy grail. This is a mainstream film with a talking, highly sexualized teddy bear.

Caity Weaver · 06/20/12 12:22AMHow to Get Americans Back to the Movies
Hamilton Nolan · 06/18/12 03:28PMOh heck, a new survey says that going to the movies is a "frequent source of entertainment" for only 3% of your fellow Americans. Three dang percent. What the hey are you doing with your time now, Americans? Masturbating? Where, and in what ways? Do you have pictures? That's not the point. The point is that the movies must be saved. But how?
Madagascar 3 Continues to Lead the Pack
Louis Peitzman · 06/17/12 01:30PMIs Lola Versus a Bad Movie, or Are All Men Sexist?
Leah Beckmann · 06/12/12 11:50AMLola Versus, a rom-com-ish movie about a woman who goes looking for herself after she's dumped the same day she tries on her wedding dress, opened this past weekend to bad numbers and worse reviews. Starring Greta Gerwig, directed by Daryl Wein and co-written by Zoe Lister Jones, it brought in a meager $31,815 (in New York and L.A. only, but still) and trailed behind its same-genre competitor, Safety Not Guaranteed.
Yep, Madagascar 3 Outgrossed Prometheus
Louis Peitzman · 06/10/12 01:24PMA 3D sci-fi epic written by Damon Lindelof and directed by Ridley Scott, complete with tie-in to the iconic Alien franchise — you'd think Prometheus would have easily taken the box office this weekend. And yes, it did well, but in the end, it couldn't keep up with Dreamworks' CGI talking animals in Madagascar 3.

Louis Peitzman · 05/28/12 03:26PM
It's easy to dismiss most remakes as useless retreads of the original, but the new Total Recall actually looks like a fun update of the 1990 film. On the other hand, is it really all that different from the first?
The Longest Day: How to Spend Your Memorial Day Weekend on Netflix
Louis Peitzman · 05/27/12 02:52PMFor many of us, Memorial Day means two things: sleeping in and not getting mail. But in the spirit of commemorating fallen soldiers, wouldn't it be appropriate to watch some heavy war films and remember the sacrifices made by our troops? Plus, with endless streaming movie options, you don't even have to leave the house to do it.
Men in Black III Finally Knocks The Avengers Down a Peg
Louis Peitzman · 05/27/12 12:09PMBig news: The Avengers is not the top movie at the box office this weekend. That's right — someone else finally claimed the No. 1 spot. And OK, it was Men in Black III, which isn't very good, and The Avengers still broke $500 million domestically, but still. Did anyone else think The Avengers was going to continue its box office dominance forever?

Tell us, Kyle, what was the best part? Was it... the part where Nicole Kidman pees all over Zac Efron?
If You Want to Know the CIA's bin Laden Secrets, Just Make a Movie About His Assassination
John Cook · 05/23/12 04:52PMDocuments released last night show that not only did the CIA and Department of Defense offer extremely cozy access to filmmakers Mark Boal and Kathryn Bigelow for their forthcoming thriller about the operation to kill Osama bin Laden—they seemed to give up previously unreleased details about the raid's origins.
Is Taylor Kitsch's Blockbuster Movie Career Already Over?
Rich Juzwiak · 05/21/12 10:54AM2012: The year that Hollywood took a chance on Taylor Kitsch and failed miserably. John Carter cost an estimated $250 in production alone and returned about $72 million domestically since its March 9 release. Battleship opened this past weekend to the lowest domestic opening numbers ever for a film with a budget with $200 million or above: $25.3 million. The film cost an estimated $209 million to make.
The Avengers Sunk Your Battleship
Louis Peitzman · 05/20/12 03:12PMStill in the number one spot this week, The Avengers earned another $55.1 million, well outperforming Battleship, which took in a measly $25.3 million. That might not sound too bad, but given Battleship's budget, it's pretty embarrassing. In fact, this is the worst domestic opening ever for a film with a budget of at least $200 million.
The Avengers Broke the $1 Billion Mark
Louis Peitzman · 05/13/12 02:51PMA million dollars isn't cool. You know what— oh, whatever, you know the rest. The Avengers continues to dominate the box office, both domestic and international. This weekend, the superhero movie earned $103.2 million here and another $95.4 million overseas. Add that to the money it's already made, and yep, we've crossed the $1 billion line.
