Gawker has not written about Lizzie Grubman, the infamous PR flack who injured 16 people after plowing into them with her Mercedes outside a Hamptons club 13 years ago, since 2010. She has laid low since a stint on reality TV mid-decade and her power has waned, but today she sent us an email promoting the new album from R&B singer Keyshia Cole.
The solid fifth album from people's diva, Keyshia Cole, Woman to Woman, is out this week and this song is its second single. She's singing her ass off, selling the cliché with the urgency of someone who has collection agencies on the other line. In another era, this would be a huge crossover smash — if not Cole's signature song, it would at least become her "I Have Nothing." Could still happen (anything is possible), but the chances of this going on to be a singing-competition staple are slight. Anthem ballads just don't sell like they used to. Prove me wrong, universe! Please.
Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" is the actual song of the summer, but Pink's just-released "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" is bound to be nipping at its heels on the Billboard Hot 100 in no time. What sounds like the product of tossing Modest Mouse's "Float On" in a blender with some stadium rock and a pinch of house, this is the most undeniable ear candy I've heard from Pink since her debut single, "There You Go" (back when she was R&B and of ambiguous ethnicity). The yelping she does at the end of the chorus ("I've had a shit day, you had a shit day, we've had a shit day") is the best, riskiest use of her pipes yet. Pink often irritates me for carrying herself like she's above her pop peers, but here she actually is, so hooray for her.
Portly chef Emeril Lagasse turns 50 today. Indie filmmaker Todd Solondz is turning 50 today, too. Fellow director Mira Nair is 52. Artist Brice Marden is turning 71. The least appreciated Jackson brother, Tito, turns 56 today. Director Penny Marshall is turning 67. Former Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca is 85. Paige Davis, the host of Trading Spaces, is turning 40. R&B singer Ginuwine is 34. Singer Keyshia Cole is turning 28. Billionaire media mogul Haim Saban is 65. Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is 50. And singer Eric Benet, who may be best known as the idiot who cheated on Halle Berry, is 43 today.
• Lindsay Lohan is "drowning her sorrows" over Sam Ronson in a "sea of men," including 90210's Kellan Lutz and British paparazzo Chris Jepson. She's also going out all the time again, and hit up six clubs in one evening last week. But that's probably just because she's naturally very energetic. [P6]
