Consumer magazines as a whole lost nearly 26% of their ad pages in the first quarter. We broke out the numbers for Conde Nast, and they're just as bad. The biggest loser: Wired.

Bon Appetit and Gourmet are both Conde Nast-owned food magazines with similar reader demographics and ad rates. They're both equally popular among Gawker readers. They're both troubled. Why does Conde need both?

Congratulations to Self magazine, for Conde Nast CEO Charles Townsend naming its publisher the company's Publisher of the Year! But when you look at the numbers, you see just how sad this award really is:

OK, this is way worse than Candice Bergen not crying at her mom's funeral earlier tonight: "Gourmet editor in chief [Ruth Reichl] told attendees... that her mother 'was everything I didn't want to be, and to this day I wake up every morning grateful not to be her...' Penguin Press, inspired by Reichl's speech, has signed a contract with her to write a tome about the meaning of motherhood past and present." [WWD]

Conde Nast is rolling out its celeb-studded print ads, in a campaign called "Point of Passion." It's this nifty thing where people who might be in the magazines are shilling for the magazines! So you have Mary-Louise Parker posing for the New Yorker, and Patrick Dempsey working it for Details, and Richard Branson hawking Wired, and Diane von Furstenberg clutching Vanity Fair, and, naturally, Stanley Tucci caressing Gourmet. See, if famous people like magazines, well, then clearly you will enjoy them and buy them too! We thought we'd make some revisions—you know, to aim for that youthful demo that Conde is opting out on.

• Newsweek stands resolute against Gawker's jeers that "while [its recent Annie Leibovitz] story tells of Leibovitz's life and her long-term friendship with the late Susan Sontag, it skips around the question of Leibovitz's sexual orientation." As long as we're jeering, how come there was no mention of Annie running off with the nanny? [NYP]
• No uncomfortable questions were asked at the Bill Keller/Patricia Dunn dinner. Thank God, that would be so tactless. [NYO]
• For those of you who find Rachael Ray insufferably cloying, which should be all of you, maybe Gourmet's Ruth Reichl will be an improvement. RELATED: We get it, Bill Buford, you like cooking. [WWD]

Colman Andrews, co-founder and EIC of food porn bible Saveur, has left the magazine and is moving to Gourmet. Keith Kelly reports that, "Andrews and Gourmet Editor-in-Chief Ruth Reichl go back to their days at New West magazine, when he was the food editor and Reichl worked for him." How way back?
