Adrian Chen · 03/18/11 04:17PM

ICANN, the international governing body responsible for doling out website domains, has approved the .xxx domain for porn sites. According to PC magazine, the purpose is to "carve out a portion of the Internet that will be set aside for the adult entertainment industry." Already, over 200,000 .xxx sites have been pre-registered. Finally, a place for porn on the Internet! Oh, wait, isn't that already the entire Internet?

Obama Beefs Up His Libya War Talk

Jim Newell · 03/18/11 04:09PM

President Obama spoke from the White House earlier this afternoon to give some details about that minor U.S.-supported military intervention in Libya authorization the United Nations passed yesterday. He probably didn't want to say anything, but he's jetting to Brazil this weekend and felt he should throw American citizens a bone about the possible third war we're entering.

Some Actors Just Get Better With Age

Brian Moylan · 03/18/11 03:55PM

Today I read with relish that Grant Show, the former Melrose Place hottie who is having a bit of a career resurgence lately, will have a role on USA's Burn Notice. Thank God Grant is back, because he's only gotten hotter with time. And he's not the only one.

SXSW: Photos from Day 2

Remy Stern · 03/18/11 03:45PM

Legions of green decorated the streets of Austin yesterday as day two of the music portion of SXSW coincided with St. Patrick's Day. After various parties, loft retreats and even a vegan BBQ hosted by Moby during the day, Thursday night's big draw was a free outdoor concert by the Strokes. And in keeping in Texan fashion, the event was large in size, taking over an entire field and culminating in a fireworks display during the group's last song. Here are some photos of yesterday's action.

America Applauds Further Enrichment of Corporate CEOs

Hamilton Nolan · 03/18/11 03:16PM

Good news, recession-weary Americans: bonuses for corporate CEOs "bounced back last year at a speedy clip." They rose more than 30% last year! Doesn't that fill you with joy? Doesn't that give you a sense of triumph and patriotism? Doesn't that make you want to run up to the next corporate CEO you see with a baseball bat in your hands and give him that bat, as a reward for his good work?

Indian Media Discovers the Terrors of Reporting on Sarah Palin

Jim Newell · 03/18/11 03:10PM

The Palins are in India, right now! Sarah Palin will be giving the keynote address at the India Today Conclave, a fancy conference whose past keynoters include Al Gore, Benazir Bhutto, and Pervez Musharraf. You can enjoy the unusually intense promo clip up top. Until the Conclave, though, she and Todd have some time to kill, and they're already furious at the Indian media for covering them.

Bahrain Demolishes Massive Monument Where Protesters Gathered

Jim Newell · 03/18/11 01:58PM

Bahrain's government is destroying the Pearl roundabout, a major plaza in the capital Manama that had become the central gathering place for protesters in recent weeks. That means that the elegant structure at its center, the Pearl Monument, has already been razed.

The Internet Made Rebecca Black Cry

Adrian Chen · 03/18/11 01:26PM

Teen meme Rebecca Black was on Good Morning America today talking about the ridicule and fame brought by her "Friday" music video. She seems to be handling it pretty well, even if some of the mean YouTube comments made her cry.

Inside Anonymous' Secret War Room

John Cook and Adrian Chen · 03/18/11 01:00PM

Dissident members of the internet hacktivist group Anonymous, tired of what they call the mob's "unpatriotic" ways, have provided law enforcement with chat logs of the group's leadership planning crimes, as well as what they say are key members' identities. They also gave them to us.

Jersey Shore: The Return of 'Done'

Brian Moylan · 03/18/11 12:33PM

As our subjects in the most important sociological experiment of our time get close to the end of their summer, they start to fall into old patterns and must face their oldest and deadliest villains. Oh, and Sammi said "done" again. The apocalypse is nigh.

Judge Blocks Wisconsin's Collective Bargaining Law

Jim Newell · 03/18/11 12:28PM

Judge Maryann Sumi of Dane County, Wisconsin has blocked the state's infamous bill eliminating most collective bargaining rights for public employees from taking effect, at least temporarily. The question is whether the Republican leaders violated the state's open meetings law when they sneakily passed an amended version of the bill in a matter of minutes last week.

NPR Defunding Vote Triggers Another Anthony Weiner Rant

Jim Newell · 03/18/11 11:17AM

The House Republicans' vote to strip NPR of federal funding yesterday was great news for funnyman Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner! It gave him the opportunity to rant sarcastically, again, with a monologue he probably spent all night working on. Since House votes are automatic party-line approvals for whatever Republicans want nowadays, these bitter Weiner rants are pretty much the only reason for Democrats to pay attention to the chamber at all.

American Idol: Adios, Muchacha

Richard Lawson · 03/18/11 11:03AM

Another one bit all the dust last night, as our group of tributes was whittled down from thirteen to twelve, another quick, relatively bloodless death in these early stages of the final round.

Chris Brown: Yes, That Is a Picture of My Dick

Maureen O'Connor · 03/18/11 10:30AM

Chris Brown explains the emergence of a naked self-portrait: "Girls be reckless." Lindsay Lohan goes clubbing in New York. For the price of 15 minutes with a high-end hooker, you can now meet Charlie Sheen. TGIFriday gossip.

Eduardo Saverin Tries to Reclaim Facebook Magic

Adrian Chen · 03/18/11 10:23AM

Remember Eduardo Saverin? The sad co-founder of Facebook who got strong-armed out of the company by Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network (and also real life)? He's overcome his shattered dreams and is trying to get a piece of the next big tech thing.
