Give the Gift of Michael Bloomberg
cityfile · 12/10/09 12:39PMWWD asked a bunch of fashion designers about the fabulous places they'll be heading to over the holidays, and what they're hoping Santa leaves them under the tree (or beside the Hanukkah menorah, as the case may be). Most of the gifts mentioned are predictably fancy and expensive. But not all! The only thing Nanette Lepore wants this holiday season is a 15-minute meeting with Michael Bloomberg. [WWD]

cityfile · 12/08/09 01:31PMIf, like any devoted son or daughter, you were planning to buy your mom a fake Louis Vuitton bag for Christmas and pass it off as the real thing, you may now need to make other arrangements. The NYPD staged a raid on counterfeiters on Canal Street earlier today and shut down 30 storefronts that were selling fake bags, watches, and wallets, and perfume. [WABC, NBC]

cityfile · 12/04/09 10:05AMThree out-of-work bankers are in for a treat! Steven Land Clothing is looking for a few new faces to represent the brand, and it's decided to turn to the city's pool of unemployed Wall Streeters to fill the positions. There isn't any money involved, unfortunately; the three men will get $500 worth of Steven Land clothing, which means whatever chance they have of landing a new job in finance will probably be shot if they show up in what may be the tackiest clothing you've ever seen (see above). But there's always a dollar or two to be made on eBay! The press release is below.

Ravi Somaiya · 12/04/09 08:11AMTom Ford Leans to the Left
cityfile · 12/03/09 10:38AMFashion designer (and now "soulful" filmmaker) Tom Ford has worn the same signature uniform for years now, a custom-made black suit accompanied by a white dress shirt that's almost always unbuttoned halfway down his chest. Occasionally, he'll wear the tea-colored sunglasses he's long been fond of; and you'll never, ever find him baring his teeth in photographs. But that isn't the meticulous designer's only quirk: He always tips his head to the left "to highlight his best side." [NYT]

cityfile · 12/01/09 05:03PMIf you tuned into the American Music Awards the week before last, you're probably aware that not only did Jennifer Lopez fall on her well-insured backside during her performance, her latest single is all about Louboutin shoes. (It's called "Louboutins," surprisingly.) So what does the French designer make of the song? He's totally thrilled and totally flattered by it, of course. And he's extra pleased since Lopez called him in advance to make sure she was pronouncing his name correctly: "In America the public pronounces my name in like a million different ways. So Jennifer called me, and she was like, 'Listen, I want to make sure that I get it right.' And she did... from the very first time!" [FWD]

Lindsay To Remain Employed (For Now)
cityfile · 11/24/09 01:50PMIt a rare occasion when there's good Lindsay Lohan news to report, but today is one of those days. The CEO of Emanuel Ungaro, Mounir Moufarrige, says the fashion has no plans to drop LiLo as its "artistic adviser" even though her debut in Pairs last month was panned by critics and it's been rumored that retailers haven't exactly been lining up to carry the collection. Of course, the final decision is in the hands of Ungaro's owner Asim Abdullah—and he may not be on the same page with Moufarrige—but let's focus on the positive, shall we? [Reuters]
Shopping Season Starts With a Spark
cityfile · 11/24/09 12:45PMAs if retailers weren't already panicky about Black Friday and the upcoming holiday shopping season, now they have worry about fire alarms sending shoppers to the exits. Racked is reporting a fire on Broadway south of Prince Street has forced Mango, Hugo Boss and Sephora to evacuate customers and employees. [Racked]
The Irrepressible Heidi Klum
cityfile · 11/20/09 02:36PMDespite the fact she had a baby, like, five minutes ago (and she still has some baby weight to lose, or so she says), Heidi Klum took to the catwalk at the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show last night, which returned to New York after a four-year absence. "I have to say, I wasn't sure until the last minute if I was going to do it or not. I kind of left it open. And then I thought, 'What the heck. Why not?'" [AP, E!, WSJ]
Ebay Descends on Midtown
cityfile · 11/19/09 02:05PMIn what may be the clearest evidence yet that New York's real estate market is royally screwed, Ebay is opening a pop-up store on 57th Street tomorrow just a few yards from Louis Vuitton and Bergdorf Goodman. Fortunately, it won't be filled with junk that an old lady in the Midwest has been keeping in her garage for the past two decades. It'll be selling brand-new stuff (like Michael Kors handbags, M.A.C. cosmetics, and Anthropologie dresses), and the company says it will match whatever is spent in the store and donate it to charity. But if the idea of a Ebay store still horrifies you, do remember it's temporary. It will disappear from sight on November 29. [WWD]
