fashion-week

Joshua Stein · 09/06/07 02:57PM

The W Magazine party was one of the "most exclusive" of last night's Fashion Week parties and, it seems, one of the worst. Someone who went told us, "The party took place at the Chelsea Tower Chelsea Arts Tower. It was totally corporate and completely lame. The music sucked and the lighting was bad. At one point, someone asked my friend to take a survey for Cartier." Ooh, surveys! What a fun party game.

Pete Wentz's Fashion Week Party at Tenjune

Joshua Stein · 09/06/07 01:02PM

Round midnight at 21st and 10th, the Conde Nast Rock and Republic pre-party was ending. Great hives of inebriated party-people heaved out, wobbly on margaritas and spike heels, into the waiting Conde Nast town cars. Then we saw Nicole Brydson, the Observer's gal on the fashion streets. She and her Nat Sherman cigarettes were with Observer media reporter Michael Calderone and Brooklyn Paper's Adam Rathe. Page Six's Corynne Steindler was talking urgently into her phone. They were going to Pete Wentz's party at Tenjune.

Olivia Palermo "Loves The Aesthetic Of Fashion"

Emily Gould · 09/06/07 12:20PM

Oh no, those rumors about socialclimberite Olivia Palermo's family having fallen on hard times might be true! It seems that Libs has had to turn to blogging for Paper as a source of extra cash. "Hi everyone. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. Well it is that time of year — New York Fashion Week. I was very honored when Papermag.com asked me to write a blog for Fashion Week," she begins inauspiciously.

The Styles Of The Media At Fashion Week

abalk · 09/06/07 11:05AM

By now we've seen the glamour and majesty of the models strutting down the runways of Fashion Week and the celebrity guests who attend the shows, but what of the media who cover the event? Who are they wearing? We sent Richard Blakeley to Bryant Park to see what the cream of the press corp drapes itself in.

abalk · 09/05/07 12:55PM

Should you be interested in such things (and, if so, God help you) WWD has an extensive rundown of the blogs that are covering Fashion Week. The slappers over at Jezebel get a look in, as do the rest of the usual suspects. (Also, we'll be doing our part at various parties throughout the week.) Not mentioned: Fashion Dish, the Daily News' big shot to get in on this heinous internet thing. [WWD]

If you want to catch Lauren and Whitney from The Hills while they're in town this week, you'd be well advised to stay in the vicinity of anything Marc Jacobs. A reader reports that the show was filming at the Marc Jacobs casting yesterday, and another source with knowledge of the show's inner workings tells us that the pair flew in to New York from L.A. on Monday, and they'll mostly be hanging out at Condé Nast and Marc Jacobs. They'll head to Las Vegas for the VMAs on Sunday, and then will, reportedly, be back. Sightings are, of course, welcome.

Tinsley Mortimer: "My First Blog"

Choire · 09/05/07 10:57AM

Tremble, bloglings! Ubersocialite Tinz Mort'mer is blogging! In her first entry over at Glamour, Tinsley semi-non-apologizes for wearing the same dress twice and declares an entire season to be "over." It's like My Little Pony learned how to type! And yet, the "work product" is more literate than that of any other blogger Glamour has yet employed....

Fashion Week: The Economic Rationale For Partying Like a Rockstar

Elizabeth Currid · 09/04/07 12:55PM

You read Us Weekly for the articles. You can't help but be interested in what Lindsay Lohan snorted, ran her car into or slept with this week. But, you went to college, you read the new Chabons and Lethems as soon as they come out! You're not a vapid person! Good news: Celebrity is not only a major driver of the economy, it's a subject worthy of academic scrutiny. University of Southern California professor Elizabeth Currid, PhD., explains the sociology of fame and pop culture.

World famous fellator Chloe Sevigny is debuting her fashion line on September 10th at Opening Ceremony, the ur-downtown boutique. Though no garments have been revealed yet, her logo has. Check out the umlaut! Judging from the analogue angularity of it all, we're looking forward to her early Gameboy fall collection. Who can say no to a Tetris camisole and a deconstructed minimalist Donkey Kong shrug?

Socialolgay and fashionpreneur Kristian Laliberte claims the email we posted earlier about the Unruly Heir fashion show is part-phony. "Whoever wrote that email obviously doctored it. I never said anything about socials that were confirmed. Everything else was true. But i have no idea of who the confirmed socials will be. I know who I sent that email to, they are so sneaky." Quake, socials!

10 Secrets Of Kristian Laliberte's Fashion Show Revealed!

Emily Gould · 08/28/07 12:10PM

"We are having more of a presentation than a show, with models walking down the runway to inhabit tableaus vivant, or living painting," wrote socialolgay Kristian Laliberte to a company from which he's trying to get free stuff for his fashion week goodie bags. Heh. What other fabuleus things are in store for those lucky enough to be invited to Unruly Heir's Spring/Summer '08 Fashion Event at the Soho Grand?

No One Important Will Go To Boston Fashion Week

Doree Shafrir · 08/14/07 11:08AM

Boston is trying to become fashionable! (Have they been speaking with noted Boston fashion maven and Times CEO Janet Robinson?) Boston Fashion Week "serves as a platform for both established industry professionals and aspiring newcomers to showcase the great wealth of local talent," according to the event's frame-happy website. Except there's one little problem, as a reader points out: "It's being held, oops, at the same time as New York Fashion Week. Which means that none of Boston's most important buyers, editors, or fashion advertisers will even be in town. And which means that the rest of the world won't be paying attention anyway." Aw, Boston. That whole thinking you're the Hub of the universe thing might be backfiring.

Fashion Week: Zac Posen

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 05:10PM

All the very hottest models came out for fashion darling Zac Posen's show, which Gawker photographer Nikola Tamindzic graciously shot for us. Nikola's full gallery is here.

Fashion Week: Cynthia Rowley Afterparty @ Star Lounge

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 04:40PM

Gawker photographer Nikola Tamindzic joined Editorial Assistant Heather at the afterparty for Cynthia Rowley's kicky, flirty fall collection. The party was held in the so cool it's not even OPEN yet Star Lounge underneath the Chelsea Hotel. We're sure we're the last to observe that "not opened yet" is the new "open," huh? Some kicky, flirty celebs were present (ex: Alan Cumming.)

Fashion Week: Malan Breton

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 04:10PM

Gawker photographer Nikola Tamindzic and Gawker editor Emily Gould joined forces a historymaking second time at Proj. Run oddity Malan Breton's show this morning. A particular highlight for Emily was meeting America's Next to Next Top Model Melrose, who she hopes will never Google herself and learn that Emily is being a huge hypocrite in this picture because she had previously told the internet that she really didn't like Melrose. In Emily's defense, she would like to explain that she and Melrose hadn't met and bonded closely in five seconds after a fashion show at that point in time. Anyway, there's more of Nikola's experience to be found over here, and more of Emily's take on matters after the jump.

Fashion Week: Vera Wang

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 03:40PM

We sent Gawkphotog Nikola Tamindzic over to document the fact that there's more to Vera Wang than just wedding dresses. There's also . . . sorry, we got distracted by Tinsley Mortimer, 31! Oooooh! Lookit her! What were we saying? Oh, yes: Vera Wang. We've liked her since she admitted in New York that she kinda hates the brides who constitute her bread and butter. These clothes are pretty sweet, right? You can see more of them over at Nikola's place.

Fashion Week: Badgley Mischka

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 02:30PM

Ah, Badgley Mischka, the luxe line beloved of red-carpet-going starlets. Not particularly beloved of us, but that's just because we hate people who have difficult-to-spell names. Seriously, the Alex Kuczynski/ Dave Zinczenko thing is 85% because of their respective vowel deficits. Anyway: Anna Wintour! Just look at her, all fur-enshrouded, biting her lip in anticipation. Gawker lensman Nikola Tamindzic took the snaps here, of course.

Stardolls Poll Results and Fabulous Prizes Revealed

Emily Gould · 02/09/07 12:40PM

Well, the polls have closed, and the winner of the Stardolls photoshop contest is, by a Wintour-slim margin, the creator of the P*r*z doll, Kate Rados. Kate endeared herself to us by submitting her design with this caveat: "There wasn't a "flabby bunt" attachment, but you work with whatcha got." Well, Kate made it work, and her reward is tangentially related to the work of someone who's heard that catchphrase quite a few times: Malan Breton. This morning, we attended a showing of his Fall 07 collection (more on this later!) and received a gift bag full of goodies, which, as promised, we are passing on to lucky Kate. Kate, please step forward to claim:
