cityfile · 08/19/08 02:28PM
  • Vogue's dip in the shallow waters of reality TV is upon us: Model.Live will follow the adventures of three IMG models as they work New York, London, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. It would make for compelling viewing if it weren't for the fact that all the drugs, bulimia, and sleaze will no doubt be edited out. [Vogue.TV]

Yet More Talk of Ashley Dupre's TV Career

  • Ashley Dupre's reps, who have been negotiating deals on her behalf, say she's interested in "journalism and lounge singing," and that she "sees herself as a kind of Dr. Phil." Appropriately, the $2 million TV offer she's considering would team her up with the producer to reunited Joey Buttafuoco and Amy Fisher. [NYP]

PETA's Dan Mathews: Scourge of Fashionistas, Savior of Cute Animals

cityfile · 07/07/08 01:26PM

The public face of PETA, Dan Mathews, has been flying around the world as usual, but instead of focusing solely on orchestrating wacky animal rights stunts, he's promoting his book, Committed: a Rabble-Rouser's Memoir, in which he describes PETA's public enemy no. 1, Anna Wintour, as looking "like she has constant, painful gas." Attacks on the Vogue editor have created some of the biggest headlines for PETA, but she remains intransigent in the face of gay ex-model Mathew's inventive campaigns:

The Philosophy of Donna Karan

cityfile · 06/16/08 11:55AM

Donna Karan is coming out with a line of astrology-themed handbags, an event that's giving her sizeable kooky Kabbalah-ish side free rein. "You think it's an accident that you're here today?" she asks a Telegraph journalist who's arrived at her apartment to interview her. "Unh-unh, you're here for a reason. There's a destiny behind this, a soul connection. We're here to learn from each other, you and me." Isn't it uncanny how the people who think that "everything happens for a reason" and "there are no accidents" are invariably massively wealthy and fortunate? Anyway, more gems of spiritual wisdom from Donna after the jump!

How To Become Famous: Join The Celebrity Network

abalk · 07/16/07 12:05PM

You read Us Weekly for the articles. You can't help but be interested in what Lindsay Lohan snorted, ran her car into or slept with this week. But, you went to college, you read the new Chabons and Lethems as soon as they come out! You're not a vapid person! Good news: Celebrity is not only a major driver of the economy, it's a subject worthy of academic scrutiny. University of Southern California professor Elizabeth Currid, PhD., explains the sociology of fame and pop culture.

Like most people who've lived in New York or Los Angeles for a while, I am no longer thrilled about running into celebrities for the sake of running into them. It isn't all that interesting any more, even though it's still amusing to remark, "I ran into Scarlett Johansson and she is so much hotter in person." (She so is).
