The Doctor Will See You (in Your Condo) Now

cityfile · 09/17/08 11:36AM

Say hello to Dr. Robert Glatter. According to the Post, he's the emergency room doctor known around town as "the official doctor of the city's 'fashion bitches' such as Elie and Rory Tahari, Diane von Furstenberg, Devi Kroell and the cast of Gossip Girl." (We're not too familiar with HIPAA regulations, but we're pretty sure that calling your patients "fashion bitches" is a no-no.) Anyway, it seems answering Diane's late-night phone calls isn't Dr. Glatter's ultimate goal. The PR-seeking doc—he has Karine Bakhoum on retainer—recently started up a company called Dr. 911, which is providing medical services to the residents of a few ultra-luxe buildings like 40 Bond and 15 Central Park West.

Now It's London's Turn

» International fashionistas like Diane von Furstenberg had barely seconds to spare between New York Fashion Week ending and London beginning: Across the pond good weather has thrown everyone into confusion, designers are angry about plans for New York to encroach on London's runway time, and to cap it all, they've got Peaches Geldof (left) back in town, although everyone had been hoping she'd stay in NYC. » Maggie Rizer is writing a memoir about growing up as a model and about her personal and family life. No doubt she'll be touching on her stepfather's theft of $7 million of her money to feed his gambling addiction. [WWD]
» You have until 10pm to buy some Sigerson Morrison pumps, an Anya Hindmarch purse, or a Jonathan Saunders dress from one of the Target Bullseye Bodegas. [LX.TV]

Fashion Week Highlights: Day Five

♦ At Betsey Johnson, the front row—Kelly Osbourne, Perry Farrell, Miss J Alexander, Bow Wow, Ugly Betty's Mark Indelicato, Jason Lewis, Mickey Boardman, Lynn Yaeger, and Patrick McMullan—sat at little tables festooned with frosted cupcakes and lollipops for a Peter Pan-themed show in which Liam McMullan played a pirate "throwing gold coins at the audience and pinching the models' exposed bottoms as they walked by." Betsey did her customary finale cartwheel, showed off her granddaughter (left), and went off on vacation with her boyfriend (an Italian decades her junior, of course). You know little boy, I have much I can teach you

At the Diane von Fürstenberg show at New York's Fashion Week, Google cofounder Sergey Brin and his 23andMe cofounder wife Anne Wojcicki were spotted front and center. Which is hilarious, since Brin is rarely seen in anything but a t-shirt and jeans — hopefully he wore more stylish footwear than Crocs. Here he's spotted in the usual ensemble with Barry Diller, CEO of IAC, who had the sense to wear actual fashion. Friday's winner was hmann with "No, it's $40 for one song. You have to buy your own drinks, and there's no touching." (Photo by Getty/Michael Tran)

Hurricane Soaked Fashion Week Highlights

  • Drama abounded at DKNY's show yesterday: PETA protestors burst onto the runway, shouting and brandishing placards—to the apparent amusement of André Leon Talley—while Petra Nemcova's new bangs rendered her unrecognizable and therefore unmolested by the media. Meanwhile the rather random celebrity trio of Winona Ryder, Christina Ricci, and Nicole Richie were regaled with "combinations of electric blue and black, neon pink and yellow anorak dresses, parachute pants and color-blocked knits" and a finale led by Donna Karan's five-year-old granddaughter Stefania. Fashion Week: The Circus Descends

  • The inimitable Fug Girls were at Yigal Azrouël today and saw Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann (not sweating in leather pants, enthusiastically posing for a photographer), Miss J Alexander and Nigel Barker (chatting front row), Cory Kennedy (bored, disheveled), Alexis Bryan Morgan (still pregnant), Fabiola Beracasa (front row next to Katie Lee Joel), Nina Garcia (talking to reporters), and Kelly Cutrone (looking better in person than on TV). 1) One of many Fashion Week kick-off events was the Agyness Deyn-hosted, Thierry Mugler-sponsored bash last night at Christie's, where Chloë Sevigny, Henry Holland, Kelly Osbourne, Peaches Geldof, Yigal Azrouël, Kelly Cutrone, Paul Sevigny, Kate Schelter, Jennifer Creel, Holly Dunlap, Genevieve Jones, Jen Cohen, Dori Cooperman, Ellen Von Unwerth, Padma Lakshmi, and Mary Alice Stephenson previewed the auction house's fall sales of post-war and contemporary art, impressionist and modern art, and fashion. The Shows, At the Right Price

cityfile · 09/04/08 06:44AM

Mere mortals who don't work in the industry, but who have an American Express platinum card or a serious shopping addiction to their favorite designer, can attend Fashion Week shows along with the buyers, media, and assorted celebrities and hangers on. By purchasing pricy packages through Amex, you'll get to see the show and be taken backstage to meet, say, Phillip Lim, Diane von Furstenberg, or Tory Burch, who are no doubt thrilled at the prospect of interrupting their frantic activities to make chit chat with starstruck fans from New Jersey.

Staff Uniforms: Designers' Dirty Little Lucrative Sideline

cityfile · 08/19/08 03:01PM

Thompson LES, the latest addition to Jason Pomeranc’s hotel franchise, recently opened its shiny doors. (Well, prematurely half-opened: Before you book a room or head over for a drink, bear in mind that the pool, outdoor bar, and restaurant are still under construction.) The luxe lodge's rooms are equipped with mini-bars stocked by Dean and Deluca, Sferra linens, and Frette robes. But most importantly, guests won't be offended by badly-dressed staff, thanks to their Rogan Gregory-designed uniforms. But Gregory, who collaborated with Bono on the eco-friendly clothing line Edun, is far from the first designer to cash in by dressing the help. Employees at other swanky hotels, waitstaff at restaurants, athletes, and even the Boy Scouts can boast of high-end names on their uniforms' labels. For example:

Did Anderson Cooper Move His Young Boyfriend Into His Pad?

Ryan Tate · 07/29/08 09:13PM

The Anderson Cooper rumor mill most recently had the flirty CNN anchor dating an assistant to Barry Diller beard Diane Von Furstenberg in the wake of a breakup from 22-year-old JD Ordonez, a marine mammal trainer in California. Now we're told the silver-haired newsman is trying to settle down, albeit with a 24-ish guy, even as he trots the globe to film his upcoming Planet In Peril special. A tipster heard from the supposed boyfriend's associates that Cooper asked him to move in and that the boyfriend accepted. Is this boyfriend one and the same as Von Furstenberg's assistant? Who knows? (No, really — who knows?) The less friendly gossip is after the jump.
