Georgina Speaks: 'He Just Is Harvey!'

cityfile · 07/11/08 10:40AM

Harvey Weinstein, who has been the focus of some strange goings on as of late, has appeared blissfully happy (or whatever passes for normal human emotion within the mysterious chambers of the brutish mogul's dark heart) since marrying English fashion designer Georgina Chapman last December. The greatest beauty and the beast couple since Ric Ocasek and Paulina Porizkova, Harvey and George have said that they like to keep their private life private, which may explain why in an interview (not online) with Tatler's editor-at-large Vassi Chamberlain, the reporter's questions are "met with short responses and deft sidestepping." But it's a great testament to Chamberlain's journalistic skills that she manages to get shy Georgina to gush about her husband for nearly a page anyway!

Diller and DVF Have $5K for Juvenile Diabetics

cityfile · 07/11/08 09:06AM

Diane von Furstenberg and husband Barry Diller—who collected $295 million in salary and stock in 2007 as the chairman of IAC—have never had any problems spending money. Look no further than Diller's $200 million boat, EOS, one of the most expensive sailing ships in the world. But some of the money goes to charity, not just hyper-luxurious ocean vessels! The legendarily temperamental media mogul seems to have a softer side, contrary to popular opinion. Below, details on the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, which seems to be considerably more legitimate than the Diller-von Furstenberg marriage itself.

Living Large with Charlie Rangel

cityfile · 07/11/08 08:33AM

The New York Times has a juicy story today about Charlie Rangel and the four rent-stabilized apartments he occupies in Harlem. (Or maybe not so juicy after all: three of the apartments were combined into one apartment; the other is his home office.) The bigger question: Is someone out to get Rangel and is this possibly payback for turning on Hillary Clinton? [Radar Online]

A Peek Inside the Sloane Mansion

cityfile · 07/11/08 08:06AM

The Daily News has "exclusive" photos of the Sloane Mansion, the lavish townhouse on East 68th Street, which is now on the market for a mere $64 million. The 19,000-square foot manse has 30 rooms and a ballroom. But good luck getting broker Paula del Nunzio to show it to you. "'There are people out there entertained by pretending that they can purchase large mansions in New York City,' says Del Nunzio. 'I need to be sure I am not speaking to one of them.'" (Like who doesn't spend their weekends pretending to be a Russian oligarch and visiting nine-figure townhouses on the Upper East Side?) So how does del Nunzio separate the haves from the have-nots? "Buyers go through credit checks, Google searches and other identity-establishing procedures." Oh, yes! If it comes up on Google, it must be true! More photos of the Sloane Mansion below.

There's an Idea

Now you know why that taxi ride down Broadway will take twice as long pretty soon : "The city is creating a public esplanade along a portion of one of its most prominent streets, Broadway in Midtown, setting aside the east side of the roadway for a bicycle lane and a pedestrian walkway with cafe tables, chairs, umbrellas and flower-filled planters." Alex Soros' Summer in Southampton

cityfile · 07/10/08 12:45PM

Alexander Soros looks like he's having a great summer! The 22-year-old son of billionaire financier George Soros (and his second wife, Susan), Alex graduated from NYU in May, but he certainly hasn't been spending the summer in search of a job. He's been chilling at dad's house in Southampton, drinking 40s while cruising on the family boat, and making out with the babes at places like La Playa and Pink Elephant. He's still listing himself as "unemployed" on his Facebook page (which is open to all!), but we're sure that will change once Daddy gets involved. A job working for Obama? A corner office at his dad's famed hedge fund? Keep your eye on this kid: He's going places!

Nobody Wins With Divorce (Except Christie)

cityfile · 07/10/08 11:33AM

Just five days into the courtroom drama and the Christie Brinkley-Peter Cook divorce case is already over! As the tabloids mourn what could have been a perfect story for the doldrums of August, Christie can take heart in the fact she'll be getting sole custody of the kids and full ownership of the couple's homes. (She's still selling the Bridgehampton the couple once occupied.) She's also keeping their boat, Sweet Freedom. As for Peter? He gets $2.1 million, which should just about cover his legal fees. Yes, indeed, you can pick up a slice of "Allen Grubman Double Chocolate Pudding Pie" at the tourist trap the Brooklyn Diner on West 57th Street. (It happens to be a block from Grubman's office.) Here are a few other dishes named after local boldface names.

'Fawning' Social Diarist Can't Handle The Gay Truth

Ryan Tate · 07/10/08 08:05AM

We said the sassy, well-researched profiles on newly-launched Cityfile were going to be controversial, and it sure didn't take long to be proven correct — three days, to be precise. The "who's who" site for Gothamites has already landed on Page Six, where David Patrick Columbia of NewYorkSocialDiary.com is upset to be listed as "gay," and a bit more than upset that two breakups were detailed (inaccurately, he says) in his profile. Site founder Remy Stern refused to buckle under the criticism, and even maintained the site's bitchy tone in his retort, thus passing an early test of his fortitude as a publisher with flying colors — assuming he has his facts nailed down, as he maintains. After the jump, a taste of Columbia's profile, Columbia's critique and Stern's reply.

All Aboard! Where Carl Icahn Stages Deals, Blogs

cityfile · 07/10/08 07:33AM

Have a look at the Starfire, the 180-foot yacht co-owned by Carl Icahn, the billionaire corporate raider (or "activist shareholder") who's currently waging a war against the board of Yahoo. It's here that Icahn and wife Gail occasionally spend blissful summer days with friends and family. (Incidentally, it's named after one of his companies, Starfire Holding Corp.) When Carl isn't admiring the "high-gloss veneers," "exquisite wood inlays" and "Art Deco decor"—or sampling a meal prepared by the on-board chef—he can be found using one of the numerous satellite phones (or blogging using the high-speed WiFi system), which allow him to terrorize chief executives from the remotest parts of the globe. But Carl is a value investor: He'll happily rent you the boat for a week to cruise the crystal blue seas of the Caribbean. Prices, crew bios, sample itineraries—and many more photos—below.
