Serial flipper Edgar Bronfman Jr. has sold his 11-room apartment at 1040 Fifth Avenue for $21 million, according to property records published today. The buyer is Thomas D. Lehrman and his wife Marjorie. Lehman co-founded of the upstart Wall Street research firm Gerson Lehrman. A floorplan of the apartment after the jump. [Cityfile]

Sallie Krawcheck Out at Citigroup

cityfile · 09/22/08 10:39AM

Sallie Krawcheck, the Citi group executive (and financial press media darling) who once served as the bank's CFO but was pushed aside and placed in charge of Citi's wealth management division in 2007, is out of a job, according to the Wall Street Journal. Her exit didn't come as much of a surprise to Citi insiders. There has been tension between Krawcheck and Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit ever since he took over as CEO less than a year ago, and back in May Krawcheck criticized Pandit publicly before later backtracking on her remarks.

Andre's Fashion Disaster

André Leon Talley's luggage is missing! The Vogue editor arrived in Milan this morning and he was forced to wear the same outfit he wore on the plane—Juicy Couture shorts and gray Ralph Lauren polo shirt—to the D&G show. No wonder Alitalia is going bust! [WWD]

Mizrahi Rescues the Stylistically Clueless

cityfile · 09/22/08 10:19AM

How to Have Style by Isaac Mizrahi, which will be published next month, uses case studies to scold women about the contents of their wardrobes and bossily tell them what they should be wearing—in other words, it's the gay raison d'etre distilled into book form. Even though all these kind of books are based on the lie that there's such a thing as timeless style, rather than completely ephemeral fashions, if anything will make the perfect underminey/passive aggressive holiday gift, this will. Bloomberg Takes a Hit

cityfile · 09/22/08 10:11AM

Last week, Forbes annointed Michael Bloomberg the richest person in New York with a net worth of $20 billion. The Wall Street Journal offers up a handful of reasons today why he's probably not worth that much, at least after the events of last week: "If Bloomberg were publicly traded, its stock likely would have taken a dive this week... There are now two fewer investments banks buying Bloomberg terminals, not to mention the thousands of finance workers who also will lose their jobs—and their terminals—this year." The X-Rated Debate

cityfile · 09/22/08 09:13AM

Is the financial crisis good or bad for the city's strippers and hookers? Depends on who you ask, it seems. According to the Post, "jiggle joints all over the city are seeing a drop in business, with fewer customers, less bar traffic and a drop in lap dances." An item in this week's issue of New York suggests the contrary, however, claiming that "the strip clubs that cater to corporate types were still packed" as of last week. Guess if you're really interested in a conclusive answer to this terribly imporant economic issue, you'll have to hit a strip club tonight and find out for yourself. What about the city's hookers, you ask?

Tina's Feeling Optimistic

cityfile · 09/22/08 08:45AM

Tina Brown's Barry Diller-backed website, The Daily Beast, is allegedly launching in three weeks, so she must be hard at work on it, right? Don't be silly: When there's money to be made on the lecture circuit and reporters who want to talk to you about a dead princess, naturally those priorities will be attended to. The new web venture does get a little plug during this morning's interview, in which Brown also touches on dealing with career highs and lows: "I mean, don't do stuff that puts you out there and then crawl into a cave if things go badly." From the mouth of an expert! [Pittsburgh Post Gazette]

Alexis Stewart's Next Act

cityfile · 09/22/08 08:16AM

It's actually quite incredible that Martha Stewart's daughter Alexis isn't more famous than she is, given that she possesses the two qualities most likely to lead to major media success: a famous parent and no apparent limits to her oversharing. On her Sirius radio show, she has, according to a New York magazine profile, discussed: "The breast lift, the Botox, the in vitro shots to try to get pregnant, the "betweeny" wax she favors over the Brazilian, the recurrent sexual fantasies involving Scott Bakula, the past dabbling in lesbianism..." and so on.

The Sun is scheduled to close down by the end of the week if it doesn't raise additional capital. So how is Seth Lipsky, the paper's president and editor, doing in his efforts to bring in additional backers? "I haven't raised all that I need, but I've raised a lot," he tells the Times today. [NYT]

Happy Birthday

cityfile · 09/22/08 07:00AM

Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. hasn't had the easiest year: the paper's revenues are declining, hedge funds have taken hold of two seats on the Times Co. board, and he moved out of his Central Park West apartment when he split up with his wife of more than 20 years. Hopefully he'll be in a better mood today when Bill Keller wheels in a giant birthday cake to celebrate Sulzberger's 57th birthday. Others celebrating today: Art work fixture (and Studio Museum chief curator) Thelma Golden is 43. NBA commissioner David Stern is 66. Shubert Organization chairman Gerald Schoenfeld is 84. The Week That Was

cityfile · 09/19/08 03:52PM

What a week, huh? Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and Merrill Lynch was sold off to Bank of America. The turmoil on Wall Street sent thousands of reporters converging on Midtown and tourists turned up to take pictures of the carnage, too. Memorabilia popped up on Ebay; wild rumors were everywhere; the city's socialites were blamed; things got so bad, in fact, that even Mayor Bloomberg went job hunting. But we're a strong lot. Just look at what a brave face Dick Fuld's assistant put on while Dick hid out in his Greenwich mansion. And we were reminded this week that there are still a few people with money, have fantastic perks, buy fabulous apartments, get married, and model beautiful clothes—even when everything seems to be crumbling. Remember, occasionally justice is served. If that doesn't do the trick, you can always turn to drugs to help you block out the pain. In fact, if you live in a few select buildings there's even a doctor who will come to your apartment to give you the meds.
