Michael Alig: Four More Years

cityfile · 04/23/09 02:05PM

If you were eagerly awaiting the release of club kid (and convicted murderer) Michael Alig, it looks like you're going to have to wait a little while longer before you get a chance to take him back to the Limelight for a trip down memory lane. Although Alig was due to be released next month after a 13-year stretch behind bars, an additional four years has been tacked on to his sentence, reportedly because he came up positive during a drug test. Oh, and if you're under the age of 25 and you have no idea who it is we're talking about, you'll find the full backstory here if you're interested. [BlackBook]

Nelson Peltz's House of Horrors

cityfile · 04/23/09 10:05AM

Billionaire Nelson Peltz remains one of the most famous takeover artists in America: In recent years, the corporate raider (or "activist investor," as he prefers to be known) has battled for control of Wendy's, Heinz, and the candymaker Cadbury Schweppes. His hard-charging approach and tendency to ruffle feathers isn't just restricted to his professional life. Life inside Peltz's vast estate in Bedford is just as vicious, we hear, and the staff at the estate is subjected to such a dizzying amount of abuse, the Peltzes may be the worst family in America to work for.

Male Biological Clock a Reality

Guys: We understand that when you're in the early stages of a relationship, it's tempting to bring up the baby issue, especially if the big 30 isn't too far off. Some of your friends may even suggest making it clear on the first date that you need to start trying to have kids soon, because why waste time with someone who isn't serious about settling down? Just bear in mind that you might very well scare the girl off, since she can always put her eggs on ice and then marry some virile 25-year-old once she's established her career.

We've heard rumors that the "Real Housewives" of New York have been blacklisted at various high-profile social events around town. That certainly makes sense: Would you want Jill Zarin or Alex McCord lapping up attention on your red carpet? Sadly, the same seems to apply to events hosted by the ladies from the Bravo show.

The Internet Will Wipe Out the Human Race

cityfile · 04/23/09 08:17AM

Just as we now look back with amazement at our blissfully ignorant ancestors who thought that smoking was good for you, or that a suntan was a sign of health, future generations will be shaking their heads at our blithe and all-consuming addiction to the internet. Assuming, that is, that the human race survives long enough to realize that Facebook and Twitter are causing brain damage and turning the population into an army of ADHD-afflicted robots who may very well become incapable of propagating the species. Or so warns neuroscientist Susan Greenfield, who wants us to please, please think of the children.

Tinsley Mortimer Saves the World

cityfile · 04/23/09 08:03AM

We all need to do our part to improve life on this planet, especially during these troubled economic times when the gap between the haves and have-nots only appears to be widening with each passing day. Tinsley Mortimer clearly appreciates this: It seems she's made arrangements to have the makeup artists at Christian Dior—she's a Dior "Beauty Ambassador," in case you weren't aware—give makeovers to foster children.
