Last week Grub Street noticed that Graydon Carter, the Vanity Fair editor with a knack for reviving classic New York restaurants, was on the liquor license application for the new restaurant going into the former Beatrice Inn space. His wife Anna Carter confirmed his involvement to Eater this week, and yesterday the Beatrice's principal owner Emil Varda got on the line to share the details.

Serving tapas. Tapas! In 2010! That's the news from Page Six this morning. A local restaurateur named Colbi Levy plans to reopen the shuttered Beatrice Inn as an olds-skewing feedbag. Meaning it'll be open until 1 or 2am, not 4.

Beatrice Inn and the Jane Hotel were closed by prissy neighbours. Downtown stalwarts like Lit and the Box face constant scrutiny from the city. So the newest hangout for celebrities (not to mention strippers and transsexuals) is a random apartment.

It was revealed with much fanfare that Paul Sevigny will be part of the team behind new space Kenmare. The B-word was used repeatedly. But the space is still not the true successor to Sevigny's much-missed Beatrice Inn.

snarking on the clubs claiming to be "The New Beatrice" - i.e. designated hangout and coke den for New York notables and their hangers-on - in a New York Post story by Chris Wilson from Sunday that I just noticed.

The Box is opening in Moscow! Amy Sacco is still going strong in London. Looks like Manhattan's party scene is better in other countries than here. But get ready, along with the "new Beatrice," 2010 is bringing a reopened Bungalow 8.

Since Beatrice Inn closed last April it feels like hundreds — thousands — of clubs and lounges have tried to claim succession. Today we have big news on the actual new Beatrice — Paul Sevigny's imminent new place.

In April the Beatrice Inn was cruelly shuttered, casting hundreds of refugees into Manhattan at 2am with just the ironic T-shirts on their backs. As rumors of Paul Sevigny's new place build, we look at where those outcasts are now.

Approximately every five minutes someone leaks that Beatrice Inn owner Paul Sevigny has taken over a new place in New York that is like his old place. Except it's not really true.

Since Beatrice Inn and the Jane Hotel Ballroom closed down hipsters have been in a state of non-ironic panic. Earlier this week both were rumored to be reopening soon. The hipsters were happy! But then bad things and death struck.

Remember when Bungalow 8 was the hottest place in town? Yeah, memories of those days can be a bit foggy. With the news that it's closing we're looking back on the glory days of the greats.

Restaurants, bars, and clubs don't just shut down these days. They "close for renovations" for a few weeks or months. Then they announce that they are not, in fact, planning to reopen and they've been shuttered for good. Below: a few recent examples of what is sometimes the result of a series of unexpected events, but is often a face-saving public relations technique.

I went to Fashion's Night Out at Bergdorf's last night to see you bartend, but you were gone. Always wanted to thank you for that magical moment we shared at the Beatrice Inn. So I thought I'd do it here!

• A TGI Friday's and Tim Hortons in Union Square? The Riese Organization, which just acquired the building that once housed Zen Palate, says it will bring the chains to the 'hood if it can't find a higher-paying tenant. Uh oh. [Crain's]
