America's Sweetheart Amy Sedaris Teaches Jimmy Fallon How to Save Lives

Dayna Evans · 08/24/14 10:30AM

Amy Sedaris—the god—was on Jimmy Fallon's late-night variety program on Friday, and it was quickly revealed that Sedaris has been doing a service to communities everywhere by getting certified in CPR. If you are dying of a heart attack, the only woman you want to save you is Amy Sedaris. Deny all help unless it's Amy Sedaris.

Amy Sedaris Resurrected Jerri Blank for a Mad Men Skit with Jon Hamm

Rich Juzwiak · 05/15/14 07:40AM

On last night's episode of Watch What Happens Live, ringmaster Andy Cohen had his guests Jon Hamm and Amy Sedaris act out an iconic Don Draper/Peggy Olson confrontation from Season 4 of Mad Men. The twist was that Sedaris was made to perform the scene as her former drug addict/prostitute Strangers with Candy character, Jerri Blank. The result was all...mildewy. Unfortunately, though, the scene study did not end with Jerri Blank ugly-crying, as Peggy did on the original episode.

New Movie For Kids Features Sex Fiend, Sex Police

Richard Lawson · 07/30/08 12:38PM

Strangers With Candy was a comedy about a damaged user, boozer, and loser who returns to high school in her late 40's to engage in a lesbian relationship with a teenage girl named Tamela. Law & Order: SVU is about heinous sex crimes and the dogged, perpetually too-close-to-the-case detective who investigates them. So it makes perfect sense then that the two stars of those shows, Amy Sedaris and Christopher Meloni, would team up with Candy creator Paul Dinello to make a TV movie for kiddie network Nickelodeon. The pair will star in Gym Teacher: The Movie, about a has-been gymnast (Meloni) who catches the fancy of Sedaris' principal when he takes a job at her school. Mollygood hails this as the return of adult-friendly Nick fare, like the late Pete & Pete. We just pray it's as darkly subversive as its cast suggests. (Though, we dejectedly doubt it will be.) Meloni can be funny, as was evidenced in Wet, Hot, American Summer, and Sedaris, well, she's a Sedaris. Here's hoping for some winky winky child abuse/murder jokes. The kids love those! Oh, and, um, David Alan Grier is in it.

My Interview With Michael Ian Black

ian spiegelman · 06/28/08 11:40AM

Last week, comedian/author/VH1 dude Michael Ian Black started a feud with memoirist David Sedaris in preparation for the release of his own book, My Custom Van: And 50 Other Essays That Will Blow Your Mind All Over Your Face. I decided to ask him about that, and a bunch of other things, at around the time of night when I used to watch Battlestar Galactica. The deeply insightful results after the jump.

Amy Sedaris Buys Co-op Off Fifth

cityfile · 06/23/08 03:02PM

"Quirky" comedienne and author Amy Sedaris has gone into contract on a fourth-floor apartment at 50 West 9th Street, off Fifth Avenue. Listed at $1.25 million, the one-bedroom co-op features arched doorways, a wood-burning fireplace, and all the original wood ceiling beams, floors, doors, and hardware. Amy won't be making the move from her current digs on Christopher Street alone: Her pet rabbit Dusty, her collection of plastic food (like the ham bone, right) and possibly the ghost of her murdered imaginary boyfriend, Ricky, are expected to go along for the ride. Photos of Sedaris's new abode below.

Fact-Checking David Sedaris

Ryan Tate · 05/12/08 03:43AM

New Yorker fact checkers are freaking out about submissions from comic writer and accused bullshitter David Sedaris, so sister Amy Sedaris (also comic writer, arguably funnier) had some fun: "Once, a checker asked Amy to verify if it was true that 'David paid her a dime for a chicken leg at childhood dinners.' But the comic star caused havoc when she jokingly said she was actually paid 20 cents, forcing the checker to call David back about the conflicting facts in his piece." [Post]

Amy Sedaris Now with Sprinkles

Chris Mohney · 10/18/06 08:22AM

As part of Monday's release of her book I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, comedienne/caterer Amy Sedaris (or her minions/fans) has released a few publicity stills similar to the one at right. They depict a barely clad Sedaris bespeckled with multicolored sugar sprinkles — apparently this is for a chapter/section in the book called "The Cavity Hole." Now there may be a legitimate cookery connection, but one can't help but note the visual echo of the cover for A Million Little Pieces by unregenerate fabulist James Frey. One suspects that these sprinkles, satirical or not, worked their way into several inconvenient crevices over the course of the photo shoot.
