Last night we saw our first individual elimination and the contestants were once again reminded that this is going to be no easy feat, to keep their wits about them and make it to the end. Was it a fair elimination? I think it certainly was.
On tonight's American Idol, the always dreaded group numbers were back! This time, our Top 13 took on Michael Jackson and performed a tribute to the late King of Pop via a medley of his songs. It wasn't good.
On last night's American Idol, the 13 remaining contestants performed songs by their personal idols. Results were, for the most part, expected (Shania, Selena, MJ), but one contestant, Paul McDonald, deviated from the norm by singing a little Ryan Adams.
Lucky 13! Last night was the premiere of your Idol season 10 finalists, the small handful of folks from which you will be forced to pick a winner. What'd you think?? Sigh, yeah, me too.
What's an extra cruel way to tease the American Idol finalists with wealth and fame only to tear the dream out of their hands one by one until no one is left? Put them in a seriously huge, $100,000/week rental mansion, so they can feel like kings and queens (mostly queens) for a day or two before they are sent tumbling, so so far, back down to miserable wannabe obscurity.
At last? Though the semifinals just began this week, here we are already at the finals. Instead of doing two weeks of semifinal competition, the show decided to do it all in one fell swoop, eliminating a record-setting eleven people in one episode, leaving the stage of the Idol Thunderdome soaked with blood and tears. But mostly blood.
OK then. We've now seen the crop of lady-girls who were selected by the Idol panel to battle it out for our amusement, and it's not pretty. Well, it's certainly pretty, there are many pretty girls in the lineup, but vocally? It doesn't seem like they're going to get the Kelly Clarkson they're so clearly wishing for.
We finally made it! Last night was the first night of true American Idol singing competition, with the contestants finally turned toward us, the voting public, made to sing for our cruel amusement. It was the semifinals boys' night last night, a ragtag bunch of fellows who had a big task set out before them. So how they'd do? Eh.
Well! It's happened. The power has been thrown to us as the judges have whittled the tributes down to a manageable 24 and now it's in our hands. Are we ready? More importantly, are we excited?
