Matt Lauer, the man who, for so long, has made our mornings slightly uncomfortable in indescribable ways, could be gearing up to make us slightly uncomfortable in the early evenings. According to the New York Post, several "knowledgeable sources" report that Lauer is the first choice to replace Trebek after the Jeopardy! host's contract expires.
Last night on Jeopardy!'s Tournament of Champions, a giddy Alex Trebek dressed up in Metropolitan Opera costumes for a trippy category on "Operatic Costumes." Now that we have seen America's most robotic game show host vamping in a Le Comte Ory nun costume, are we ready for the gender-bending Rapture? [Jeopardy, Esquire, @ZWoolfe]
Jeopardy host Alex Trebek arrived at the National Geographic World Championship, which he was hosting, on crutches today. Apparently he fell while "chasing a burglar" at 2:30 am at his San Francisco hotel and snapped his Achilles tendon. Hm. I'll take improbable explanations for $800. Also, what is: ouch. Computers are officially better than humans at Jeopardy. IBM's supercomputer Watson beat out Jeopardy champs Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter for a second night in a row—without even being connected to the Internet! A few embarrassing missteps (answering "Dorothy Parker" instead of "The Elements of Style" on a Daily Double) couldn't keep Watson from annihilating his human competition. (See above for Watson's winning Final Jeopardy answer.)
Tonight brought us part three of the ultimate Jeopardy! challenge, with an IBM-created computer, Watson, battling all-time show favorites Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. In the end, Our New Robot Overlord was victorious, taking home $1 million for "his" charities.
Things got a little nuts last week on the set of Jeopardy! when they unveiled a pretty crazy set of categories for Double Jeopardy. It led to one contestant actually saying: "Alex, I'll take Your Momma for $400."
Jon Golbe is an actor/TV writer/Brooklynite. Tonight, Golbe was a contestant on Jeopardy!, and—for several, possibly unknown reasons—he stole the show more than any other contestant in recent memory. Inside, a compilation of Golbe's best (or worst?) moments.
Isn't this neat! On tonight's episode of Jeopardy—during the "Double Jeopardy!" round—there was a category called, "Blogs & Bloggers." You know where this is going, right? When the $1,600 answer came up... well, just watch and see.
Seems like Trebek has little patience for anything—even without contestants like Sean Connery. Watch as he gets fed up while filming this promo for at-home-phone-Jeopardy! Wait for the F-bomb at the end.
On last night's Jeopardy!, more than biographical tidbits were revealed when Alex Trebek asked a forensic scientist about his job. The guy works with illicit drugs mostly, and apparently, Alex has some experience in that area.
