Texas Governor Rick Perry, the product yielded if you mix a can of hairspray with an old leather trench coat, is telling reporters that his wife used "the wrong word" when she said recently that she believes abortion is a right. Ha ha ha. That crazy woman. Thank goodness her husband is here to set things straight.

"From time to time we'll stick the wrong word in the wrong place, and you pounce upon it," Perry said at a campaign event for U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan in New Jersey today, according to Bloomberg. Perry was referencing the recent interview (below), in which Anita Perry told Texas Tribune journalist Evan Smith that she sees abortion as "a women's right. If they want to do that, that is their decision." Pressed to clarify her position, Anita said, "Yeah, that could be a women's right. Just like it's a man's right if he wants to have some kind of procedure. But I don't agree with it, and that's not my view."

Anita's husband, Rick, strongly opposes abortion and has fought doggedly to pass ultra-strict abortion regulations that go against the opinions of more progressive Texas women like Wendy Davis and, apparently, his wife. Perhaps he'll avoid any future headaches of this kind by drafting a law banning wives from expressing their opinions in public.
