Welcome to the Nightmarish World of Bumfight Porn

Seth Abramovitch · 04/12/11 11:45PM

The homeless of St. Petersburg, Fla. have become the unlikely stars of a series of fetish videos in which they were treated like human "punching bags" by scantily clad women. In exchange for the filmed maulings—some so severe they put the recipients in the hospital—they were given $50 by Jeffrey S. Williams, the 58-year-old website manager of shefights.net. Now two of the men are suing.

One in Four Americans Sympathize More with Confederacy

Max Read · 04/12/11 09:45PM

There are two sides to the Civil War, as CNN has pointed out to us, so it makes sense that a poll commissioned by the network finds that 23 percent of Americans sympathize more with the Confederacy ("the bad guys"). And, let's be honest: Slightly less that one-quarter is actually pretty good, as questions like this go; similar percentages of people believe that President Obama is Muslim. Of course the South has a rate of Confederate sympathy at 38 percent—the highest of any demographic grouping—but (and maybe we have diminished expectations) the fact that a solid majority of southerners prefer the United States to a group of treasonous racists seems like cause for celebration. Maybe in another 150 years we can get that number down to 30 percent! [CNN; image via AP]

Tim Pawlenty Tries Too Hard to Run for President

Max Read · 04/12/11 07:33PM

Click to viewFormer Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty is trying too hard again: The Republican, who hasn't officially announced his presidential candidacy, told CNN's Piers Morgan "I'm running for president" only to have his spokesman Alex Conant quickly downplayed the statement, saying "He will have a formal announcement about running for president later this spring." Tim! Chill out! You're going to ruin this for everyone! [CNN]

The Death of MySpace: By the Numbers

Ryan Tate · 04/12/11 07:25PM

MySpace's revenue for the year ending June 20 will be just $109 million, according to documents distributed to potential buyers of the dying social network. Just a few years ago, the company was pulling in upwards of $900 million.

Donald Trump: Bad Christian, Worse Philanthropist

Max Read · 04/12/11 06:50PM

Donald Trump is not nearly as generous with money as he is with opinions: Between 1990 and 2009 the aspiring presidential candidate gave only $3.7 million of his (purported) billions to his own charity.

America's Child Hacker Nightmare

Ryan Tate · 04/12/11 05:22PM

With college increasingly derided as a pricey con, it's no wonder America's parents worry their kids will skip higher education entirely and try to get rich programming social networks or iPhone apps or whatever. Scary!

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's Terrible Naked Pregnant Pose

Maureen O'Connor · 04/12/11 05:07PM

Of all terrible naked pregnant poses, man hand bra is my least favorite. The problem is that, when a man puts his hands on his wife's tits, he automatically makes a grabbing motion. See how Nick's fingers are tensed, his thumbs outstretched and gripping? That is the source of the awkwardness. This is not an elegant nude. This is a virile man getting to second base with a lady he recently knocked up.

China Tries to Ban Time Travel

Brian Moylan · 04/12/11 04:49PM

Chinese government censors have issued new guidelines that essentially ban television programs that feature time travel as a plot device. I really wish we could do this, because there is no deus ex machina more overused or annoying than time travel.

No One Wants to Watch Law & Order: Los Angeles

Richard Lawson · 04/12/11 04:39PM

Well, it seems that not even a return from a four-month hiatus following a massive round of retooling could spark much interest in the West Coast edition of Law & Order. Last night's two-hour episode (well it was really two separate eps, but whatever), which killed off poor Skeet Ulrich and demoted Alfred Molina from DA to detective, posted a meager 5.3 million viewers, not a good sign for an already troubled show.

Sneaky Czech President Steals Other President's Pen

Maureen O'Connor · 04/12/11 03:17PM

Inspecting video from a meet and greet between Czech President Vaclav Klaus and Chilean leader Sebastian Pinera, a Czech TV show noticed their president inspecting a fancy pen, then surreptitiously pocketing it with a guilty look on his face.
