Hamilton Nolan · 04/04/12 03:58PM

Are you the type of person who buys experiences, or the type of person who buys things? You're the type of person who buys Funyuns. Yes, we know. But what you do with those Funyuns reveals whether or not you are a huge jerk.

Dance Moms's First Boy Steals the Show

Rich Juzwiak · 04/04/12 01:20PM

Last night, Lifetime debuted its spin-off to television's equivalent of panties in a bunch, Dance Moms. Set in Miami's unimaginatively named Stars Dance Studio, Dance Moms: Miami offers a new group of bitchy moms and their confused, obsequious children who are being instructed by two guys. (Are they a couple? Is societal homophobia provoking me to ask that?) The really cute one got the flu, threw up water and quoted Madea. The other one interviewed, "We need this group number to be epic." The peak of drama happened when one kid took a trophy from another kid's hand, causing the mothers to scream at each other. So what I am saying is that this is an extremely dynamic, exciting bunch of personalities.

Adrian Chen · 04/04/12 11:16AM

A Brooklyn journalist is looking to crack open the biggest story since Watergate: Are there actually women who don't like Ryan Gosling? He posted this Craigslist ad in search of "women who DISLIKE Ryan Gosling for an article." A difficult quest, given that Ryan Gosling's approval ratings hit an all time high yesterday after warning British journalist Laurie Penny about an oncoming Taxi. (More on that later.)

'I'm the King of the World' Titanic References Throughout Pop Culture History: A Video

Rich Juzwiak · 04/04/12 10:23AM

Today, Titanic 3D docks in theaters. Here's a supercut of almost 50 instances of Leonardo DiCaprio's (unfortunately?) immortal line, "I'm the king of the world," popping up throughout pop culture since the movie's original 1997 release. The phrase might be the most obnoxious thing you can say on a boat and otherwise. Sometimes the people making the reference note this. Sometimes, tragically, they do not.

Is This Maryland McDonald's Employee a Mega Millions Winner or Just Crazy?

Adrian Chen · 04/04/12 09:35AM

We all knew the Mega Millions frenzy would eventually turn into a depressing cauldron of sadness. A McDonald's worker in Baltimore, Maryland says she has the one winning ticket sold in her state, but her coworkers claim the ticket was bought as part of a lottery pool. Though she's probably just making the whole thing up.

Sellouts These Days Are Nerds

Hamilton Nolan · 04/04/12 08:43AM

Kids these days are sellouts. As you know. As soon as they set foot on a college campus, boom, they all want to become a "brand ambassador" for some energy drink company or casual clothing brand in order to bless the brand with the hot sexxxy "halo effect" that their young, nubile, innocent bodies offer. Sweet innocence of youth; thou shalt be the biggest generation of corporate sellouts ever, forsooth. Even worse: sellouts these days are nerds.

Keith Olbermann Launches Some Salvos at Current TV on David Letterman's Show

Matt Toder · 04/03/12 11:30PM

On tonight's Late Show with David Letterman, Keith Olbermann attempted to explain what exactly went wrong for him at Current TV. He did so with an analogy about a $10 million chandelier being installed in an unworthy building. It's pretty easy to guess who's who in the analogy.

Stephen Colbert Calls Out Rick Santorum's Latest Lie in His War on College

Matt Toder · 04/03/12 11:06PM

As we know by now, Rick Santorum is no fan of college; recently he took aim at California's state schools for not offering courses in American History. Too bad the claim is completely false, as Stephen Colbert made clear on tonight's Colbert Report. The only question that remains is where exactly did Santorum pull that fact from? You know the answer.

French Academic Found Dead, Naked, in NYC Hotel Room

Caity Weaver · 04/03/12 10:46PM

The director of the one of the world's top universities, the Institute of Political Studies in Paris (known popularly and in your French oral examens as Sciences Po), Richard Descoings, was found dead in a New York hotel room Tuesday afternoon. Police have opened an investigation into his death, because the circumstances surrounding it bear more than a passing resemblance to the opening scene of the Da Vinci code, which is to say, they are suspicious.
