How Will You Defeat Frankenstorm?

Caity Weaver · 10/26/12 04:52PM

The likelihood that the East Coast will be clobbered by Frankenstorm (more correctly: Frankenstorm's Monster), perhaps starting as early as Sunday is 90% as of yesterday. Most people here have resigned themselves to the fact that they and their loved ones soon will be washed out to sea, and just as Apple was beginning to experiment with new, excitingly-sized products (bummer).

Lil Wayne has either suffered 2 seizures aboard his private jet in the past 24 hours, or as his rep says, is dehydrated.

How to Not Hire a Killer Nanny: The Collective Guide from Rich-Parents Website UrbanBaby

Max Read · 10/26/12 03:45PM

While much of New York City turned to the tabloids this morning to read more about the Upper West Side preschoolers apparently stabbed to death by their nanny (who then turned the knife on herself), the real action was all happening elsewhere: at UrbanBaby, where dozens of superrich New York parents have been dishing out theories and advice for 18 hours.

Las Vegas residents complain that housing chimps in your backyard is a "safety issue." Man. That town used to be cool.

Today's Song: Corrine Bailey Rae "Chains"

Rich Juzwiak · 10/26/12 03:10PM

I had no idea that the person that I dismissed immediately upon hearing the sundresscore "Put Your Records On" was capable of soul so gut-wrenching. This reminds me of Isaac Hayes without all the sonic humidity or maybe Portishead invoking Isaac Hayes. Whatever, it's an absolute highlight of the vintage soul-obsessed The Man with the Iron Fists soundtrack, which was exec. produced by Wu-Tang Clan's RZA.

Oh My God, Will My Nanny Stab My Kids?: What Every Parent is Thinking Now

Drew Magary · 10/26/12 01:50PM

If you have children but have yet to learn anything about the terrifying story of a Manhattan nanny who stabbed two children in her care before slashing herself, rest assured, you will learn plenty in the coming days from fellow parents. They'll whisper to you on the playground. Did you hear about the nanny stabbing? They'll go over all the details. She stabbed them in the tub. Can you imagine? They'll plant seeds of fear. If it can happen there, it could happen anywhere, couldn't it? There's nothing parents love more than scaring the living shit out of each other, so between this and the coming Frankenstorm, I now have a full plate of parental scare tactics to both absorb and deploy in the coming weekend.

John Cook · 10/26/12 01:40PM

On Wednesday, we showed you parts of a video shown to guests at Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel's fabulous wedding, made by one of Timberlake's friends, featuring a bunch of L.A. street people wishing the newlyweds well. Political Pundits Are Mostly Worthless

Hamilton Nolan · 10/26/12 01:30PM

Politics, like sports, is a subject whose barrier to entry is nonexistent. That is to say, it takes virtually no knowledge of any sort in order to have an opinion on the topic. That is why politics, like sports, is such a popular thing to talk about. It is also why the vast majority of the political talk by professional political talkers is worthless.

On Sunday, Stevie Wonder's prescient, perfect Talking Book turns 40. To celebrate, avoid Macy Gray's album of TB covers.

CNN Is Stiffing the Waiters at Its RNC Celebrity Hangout

John Cook · 10/26/12 12:30PM

At both the Republican and Democratic conventions, CNN sponsored a splashy, invitation-only club called the CNN Grill to promote its unique brand of ponderous and dull cable-news fare to the press and politicians. You had to be on a list to get in, and Ari Fleischer was there, so you felt important. The drinks and food were free and—I can tell you from personal experience—it was constantly packed to capacity. And now the waiters and bartenders who worked at the Grill's Tampa, Fla., operation at the RNC are accusing CNN of not paying a promised tip.

Nonsense With a Side of Flying Fingers: The Brazen Silent Hill: Revelation 3D

Rich Juzwiak · 10/26/12 12:17PM

The walls rot like flesh. A man in an engraved triangular iron helmet is the protagonist's guardian-slash-executioner. He manually operates a carousel where people suspended by chains through their pierced bodies are the horses. A princess party in a mall led by a creepy clown disintegrates to snarling children with faces painted like cats feasting on raw, probably human meat. A spider configuration of heads and arms that look like they came out of the manufacturing plant in Björk's "All is Full of Love" video swiftly attacks.

The Tribal Menace of Colin Powell's Obama Endorsement

Mobutu Sese Seko · 10/26/12 11:30AM

Did you hear? Colin Powell is racist. Maybe you heard that back in 2008, when it was a trope on right-wing blogs. But this week, Powell endorsed Barack Obama for president, even though logically there could be no reason to. So, if unreason it was, then it must've been race madness.
