There has been an attack at the United States Consulate in Herat, Afghanistan. The AP is reporting a car explosion. Nine—including four women and two policemen—are reportedly wounded and sources say there is ongoing gun fighting outside of the building.

Trader Joe’s No Longer Offering Health Benefits to Part-Timers

Trader Joe’s fans are now going to have a harder time defending the store’s “great treatment” of workers. Famous for providing health benefits to even part-time employees, the company announced that all those who work under 30 hours a week will no longer be eligible for company-provided insurance in the new year. Instead they will be forced to pick their insurance policy from the exchanges created under the Affordable Health Care Act.

There's sorta hope. The California Legislature just approved a bill to raise the minimum wage to $10 an hour by the start of 2016. Currently the highest state minimum wage in the country is in Washington state, where workers make $9.19 an hour.

Georgetown PhD Faker Helped Convince John McCain to Strike Syria

Elizabeth O’Bagy is a frequently-cited “expert” on Syria, a popular talking head on cable news, and recently wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal that Senator John McCain and State Secretary John Kerry both cited as evidence for bombing Syria. (She was later outed as an employee of a pro-Syrian-rebel group.) You can watch her arguing with Fareed Zakaria on CNN in the video above. The only problem: she faked her credentials at Georgetown, where she claims to have earned a PhD.
