Metal Pole Impales Woman's Butt in Texting-and-Driving Accident
A Colorado woman crashed her truck while texting and driving, sending part of a metal guardrail through her thigh and buttocks and into the back of her seat.
Christina Jahnz had just stopped off at her daughter's Elizabeth, Colo. middle school and was running late for a business meeting, she told 9News. She says she had sent a voice text, but then completely defeated the purpose of hands-free texting by looking down to make sure it was correct.
The next thing Jahnz knew, she was off the road with her airbags inflated and a piece of guardrail impaling her ass and thigh. Although she says she was only going 20 miles per hour, the metal rail penetrated the front of her truck, her body, and the driver's seat.
Firefighters freed her with a saw, and surgeons were able to remove the pole. She left the hospital 4 days later with a temporary walker, and doctors don't expect there will be any permanent damage.
"They said if it [had] gone just a little bit the other way I would have bled out," Jahnz told 9News.
