Earlier today, Heidi Cruz joined a conference call with Ted’s volunteer prayer militia, the National Prayer Team, to encourage Ted’s supporters not to lose hope. After all, it took “25 years” (no it did not) to end slavery—Heidi can handle another four with Ted.

According to The Texas Tribune’s Patrick Svitek, Heidi explained how, since it was just Ted’s first national race, they still have high hopes.

That’s a lot of campaign planning—but surely Heidi is content in the knowledge that she’s supporting her husband whom she loves.

Hm.

A few things: First, no matter how you try to cut it, 25 years is a bizarrely specific wrong number to throw out there. Slavery as an institution existed for thousands of years, so that can’t be it. Maybe she meant the Civil War—a war that only lasted for four years. Or maybe she just meant slavery in the United States, which in fact lasted for 250 years.

And second, Heidi, are you okay?

Relatively speaking, of course.

Here’s the full text of Heidi’s ill-informed cry for help, according to Svitek:

I don’t want you to feel like any of this was in vain. I believe in the power of prayer. This doesn’t always happen on the timing of man, and God does not work in four-year segments. So we love you. It has changed our lives to know you and to call you our friends.

And hang in there. Be full of faith and so full of joy that this team was chosen to fight a long battle. Think that slavery—it took 25 years to defeat slavery. That is a lot longer than four years. We are full of energy. We’re going to have a great vacation. We’re going to keep moving forward.
