In an interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday, Donald Trump appeared unable to remember how many people he is vetting to be his running mate—possibly because he isn’t actually vetting anyone. “I have a list of people that I would like,” which has been narrowed to “five or six people.” Sure!

The list apparently favors those with political experience—like Governor Chris Christie—because people with political experience can help “with legislation, getting things through,” Trump told the AP.

Also, he said, picking a politician is good because they’ve already been vetted: “For the most part, they’ve been vetted over the last 20 years.”

The vetting effort is being led by campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and includes both Trump and Ben Carson. “Honestly, we’re all running it. It’s very much a group effort,” Trump said.

Or maybe nobody is vetting anybody.
