While the gossip world waited with bated breath to learn whether Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie would finally make their power consolidation official, rival couple Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were off making marriage plans of their own.

People magazine was first to report the news that Theroux, 41, proposed to Aniston, 43, last Friday, and she said yes.

"Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage," Theroux's rep told the publication.

The two began dating in May of last year after meeting on the set of the movie Wanderlust, in which they both appear.

Speaking with InStyle earlier this year, Aniston said she realized which qualities she found important in a partner by experiencing "everything you don't want in a partner."
