Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann released a statement today saying she's formally requested of the Swiss consulate to have her Swiss citizenship withdrawn effective immediately.

Bachmann was automatically made a citizen of the European nation in March after her husband, Marcus, completed the process of obtaining his own Swiss citizenship. Being a child of Swiss parents entitled Mr. Bachmann to apply for citizenship, which he did back in Februrary, reportedly at his children's behest.

"I took this action," Rep. Bachmann wrote in her statement, "because I want to make it perfectly clear: I was born in America and I am a proud American citizen. I am, and always have been, 100 percent committed to our United States Constitution and the United States of America."

Leave it to Bachmann to find something wrong with being worldly.
